Last New Year I was out of breath tying my shoes.
We were trying for a baby, and I didn't want to be the dad who couldn't keep up. So my wife and I wrote our resolutions. Mine: six pack.
I'd started a hundred times and quit a hundred times. This time I made one rule: no more restarts. Either I do it with blinders on, like a horse, or I don't do it at all.
Years ago I did karate, breakdance, parkour. I thought I knew things. I was wrong.
Things nobody told me:
- The biggest eye-opener: fresh juices. I thought I was drinking vitamins. It's basically liquid sugar.
- "Healthy" doesn't mean "good for fat loss." Avocado, peanut butter, nuts: great food, but packed with calories.
- I'd never counted a calorie in my life. No idea how much I needed for my goal, or that protein is what keeps your muscle while the fat comes off.
ChatGPT built my plan and I followed it with zero deviation. I skipped drinking at parties, which for me is basically unheard of.
But after a few weeks I noticed my "coach" kept forgetting me. Wrong weight, wrong goal, missing details. I was the one correcting it every day.
So in June, my partner and I started building the coach I actually needed: one that remembers you and adapts to your real life. We called it Lokyn.
9 months in: 77 โ 65 kg, 95 โ 71 cm waist. Visible abs. Not the end goal yet, @FrankMedranousa is still the goal. And anyone promising your dream body in 3 months is lying.
Now my son is 5 months old. Sleep went from 8 hours to 6, sometimes 4.
After one of those 4-hour nights, my coach added more carbs to my meals so I'd have energy, moved my lifting to another day, and swapped it for a light walk. Then it told me:
"Don't feel guilty. Better to miss one day than get hurt and miss weeks. And you can't get hurt now, the baby needs you."
Same rule: no restarts. But resting isn't restarting.
I'm not a fitness guru.
I'm the guy who was out of breath tying his shoes.
If you've "started Monday" more times than you can count, make the next one the last one.
Lokyn is live on Android. Reply "coach" and I'll send you the link.
