Kenyan woman Wanja Nyarari was left shocked when her daughter, while still visiting the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, sent her a WhatsApp message that simply read, “Mum, start saving.”
The daughter, who dreams of studying Law at Oxford, then sent her mother a breakdown of the estimated costs. Tuition is about £43,600 per year, amounting to £130,800 for three years. Living expenses could range from £1,405 to £2,105 per month, bringing the estimated total for three years to between £181,000 and £206,000.
That is roughly KSh 32 million to KSh 37 million.
Wanja said she read the WhatsApp message twice before looking at the figures and responding with a very Kenyan solution.
“My dear, you are going to Riara University.”
The humorous exchange has sparked reactions, with many saying the daughter has certainly learned how to dream big. She went to visit Oxford and, while still there, sent her mother a multimillion shilling financial plan.
The dream is to become a lawyer from Oxford. The question now is whether Mum is ready for the Oxford bill.
