As little as this may seem, the impact is significant.

On May 29, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, visited Ife Girls High School, Ile-Ife, under the Nigeria Customs Service’s CustomsCares CSR initiative and pledged to intervene in the school’s deteriorating infrastructure.

Yesterday, that promise became a reality. The reconstructed and upgraded facilities were commissioned.

Leadership is not always about where you come from, but about what you are willing to do.

He is from Modakeke, yet he has chosen to contribute to the development of Ife. I hope Ife will be gracious enough to appreciate and acknowledge his works.

May we learn to celebrate impact wherever it comes from. 🇳🇬

Within five years, I have constructed over 90 roads within Oshodi-Isolo LG.

Within five years, I have constructed over 100 public boreholes. I have built modern-day hospitals within my local government. I have rebuilt and constructed incomparable schools with modern day facilities with aggressive development.

They didn't want me to renovate Jalisco Field because of politics and h+tred they have for communal development. For that reason, I have taken it personally, and I have constructed more than seven Jalisco fields within Oshodi where our Kids can do sporting activites.

Our works are there and will speak for me on the day of the general election. It is my work that will elect my preferred House of Assembly and House of Representatives candidates.

I was disappointed yesterday.

At the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) National University Advancement Programme Forum, only 18 Vice Chancellors were in the room.

Of our 78 Federal Universities, only 30 participated in the FME-NHEF Advancement Programme in the first place. For something this important to the future and financial sustainability of our universities, we must do better.

Since assuming office, I have urged universities to strengthen their Advancement Offices and diversify funding. The truth is: no university can survive on government funding alone.

Our universities are sitting on enormous opportunities through their alumni, research grants, philanthropy, endowments and private-sector partnerships. Yet too many have deprioritised the very structures needed to unlock them.

So today, I gave our Vice Chancellors a clear directive: rebuild and properly staff your Advancement Offices. Place them directly under the Office of the Vice Chancellor. Give your advancement professionals the stability, access and support they need, and fully utilise the training and platform being provided by NHEF.

This is no longer a suggestion. It is a mandate.

President @officialABAT, GCFR has made it clear that this administration will not renege on its commitment to education. However, finding new sources of funding is also part of the responsibility of every Vice Chancellor.

Blended financing is the way forward. Research grants. Alumni. Philanthropy. Private-sector investment. Endowment funds. This is the path towards greater university autonomy.

We are not reinventing the wheel. We will take what works globally, adapt it to Nigeria and build institutions that can thrive for generations.

I extend my thanks to Mr. Wale Adeosun, the Founder & CEO of Kuramo Capital Management and the NHEF team for their continued partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and commitment to re-establish and strengthen Advancement Offices across our Federal Universities.

To our Vice Chancellors: the era of waiting for government to fund everything must end. Build the structures. Mobilise the resources. Strengthen your institutions. That is your responsibility, and it must become part of your legacy.
