Yeah, it's a stupid meme. However, it reveals some key Fundamentalist assumptions and notions.

First, that love of Scripture is somehow contrary to a love for truth as found in history and tradition—which include the lives and thinking of saints, mystics, theologians, and ordinary Christians (none of whom were Protestant, of course, until the 16th century).

Secondly, the notion that the Bible itself is somehow not a part of Church history and tradition. Most Fundamentalists have such disdain for history and tradition that they overlook or ignore this most basic of facts.

Thirdly, there's a strange assumption that Fundamentist Bob or Sally is somehow free of the flow and reality of Church history and tradition. As if they, magically, were given a book that has all the answers and they have the (neo-gnostic) power to understand and interpret it outside of that flow and reality. But the Fundamentalist is just as much a creature (or even creation) of a tradition as anyone else. They just refuse to admit it, even if they refer on occasion to Luther, Calvin, etc.

And I should clarify that I, too, feel very blessed by my upbringing, which I would categorize as falling in the revivalistic strain of evangelicalism (also decidedly not Calvinistic). While it didn't teach that you had to be holy to get into heaven, my parents were two of the most holy people I have ever known.
