Pre-register early, there is just a little over a month away to join Carl Teichrib, Mary Danielsen, Pablo Herrera, Cab Malone, Mark J. Harris, Sarah Geis, Ivani Greppi, Barbara Pement, Bill McKeever and more https://t.co/a6KIIMh5Xi
I (Don) was interviewed last week by Daniel Silliman, senior reporter for the Roy’s Report. The title of the interview is, “Bill Gothard’s legacy: How his errant teaching enabled abuse.” Silliman had just finished reading the updated version of our book on Bill Gothard, A Matter of Basic Principles: Bill Gothard and His Cultish Teachings. Early on in the interview, the question of whether or not Bill Gothard is a Christian came up. I pointed out that we don’t know. He may be – we don’t feel we can judge that. Some will scratch their heads on this one. There is a fairly common idea that Christians are completely identifiable by their works or behaviors, and if someone sins or behaves in ways that seem to be in conflict with the traits and characteristics the Scriptures describe, we often assume they are not believers. https://t.co/dGt8SJvRSd
(Although this was originally printed in the Winter/Spring 2016 Issue of the MCOI Journal. With the dawning of the Deconstructing from Christianity movement in the mid 2010s, this article was a mere precursor to what we see today!)
Though I no longer consider myself a Christian, I’m still keeping a space for God in my heart. I didn’t lose my religion. Instead, I’m creating my own. I don’t believe that we humans can live and function happily without any belief or faith in something outside of the physical world we live in.
These words from Keay Nigel near the end of his piece, “After 13 Years, I’m Leaving Christianity” on the HuffPost Religion blog, reveal an individual who is a microcosm of what I saw and heard at the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions (October 15-19, 2015) in Salt Lake City, UT. The Parliament is a veritable smorgasbord of religious and/or philosophical ideas from which you can pick and choose when building your own personal belief system! https://t.co/EnmbL2MHXm
Recently, a comment on Facebook by “TheKing Childof” caught my attention with a post titled, “TheKing Childof – The 144,000 This 👇 is my understanding too…. | Facebook.” It began with a statement and a question:
I am one of the 144,000, I have been shown that repeatedly and been given a dream confirmation about it.
I’m curious who else has had it revealed to them that they are part of this group as well? https://t.co/0NFbMhQgGH
