Just spoke with a friend who caught covid end of August, they've been sick ever since, and still haven't recovered

Previously, perfectly healthy, walker/trekker, outdoorsy, super adventurous. Now, completely exhausted all the time, can't take public transport because they get too tired. And on days working from home, productivity has dropped

Would a covid booster have protected them? Most likely as they massively reduce the impact of covid, help reduce transmission, and reduce the risk of long covid

But under Labour and @wesstreeting covid boosters are not available on the NHS unless you are 75+ or are vulnerable, that's 80% of the population, unprotected

The only option is a private booster at around £100 which many cannot afford

It's an absolute public health scandal that with each wave we see more fall ill, more suffer from long covid, damaging their health, not to mention reducing their economic productivity

Labour keep saying they want to grow the economy and get people off sickness/disability benefits. How do they plan to do that if with each wave more fall ill and some end up seeking benefits because of it?

My friend has never taken benefits, is hard working, a positive contributor to society, culturally, as well as economically as a higher rate tax payer

How much damage to people's health before the government treats covid as it does the flu, with regular boosters on the NHS?

Labour spent the early years of the pandemic criticising the Conservatives for poor public health policy and measures: late to lockdowns and so we ended up having even longer lockdowns, then the ridiculous tiered system under Johnson and Sunak, not to mention Eat out to help out which ended up increasing covid cases - scandalous

Years on, we have the tools to mitigate and protect from covid, or at least make it less worse, and official Labour health policy is 'meh'

Shame on Labour

Look after yourself, stay safe, and if you're one of the unlucky ones who catches covid - 1 in 57 in the UK has it right now - I wish you a full and speedy recovery 🙏

Oh and another friend messaged this morning to say they fell ill. Same as above friend, busy, active, higher income tax payer. They've just ordered a batch of covid tests to see if its that or something else

We all laugh at President Trump for his absurdities, public health in the UK under Labour - whether its Labour not hiring enough GPs, or Labour ignoring covid - it's just as bad
