Had a productive meeting at the State Department today in Washington DC at the South Africa Desk.

For those wondering: no, the Americans do not "misunderstand" South Africa's laws. They are fully informed, and we at the @FMFSouthAfrica are glad to play a part in informing.

All the Americans are really asking South Africa to do is align itself with its own (South Africa's) Constitution. There should be no easier thing to do.

Reject race in law.
Respect property rights.
Condemn racial incitement.
Prioritise vulnerable groups in policing.

South Africa has turned its back on the USA.

It's 1985
South Africa is still under Apartheid.

The world is putting pressure on SA to dismantle its racial system and one of the countries applying that pressure is the United States. Ronald Reagan signs an executive order targeting the apartheid government and restricting certain economic dealings with South Africa.

America is telling South Africa that it's racial system is unacceptable.

Fast fast-forward 4 decades.

South Africa is now telling America: You're attacking our sovereignty. Don't question our race-based policies. It's our sovereign right.

HOW DID WE GO FROM ASKING AMERICA TO HELP US FIGHT RACIAL DISCRIMINATION… TO ACCUSING AMERICA OF INTERFERING WHEN IT QUESTIONS RACE-BASED POLICY?

Even worse, we're now referring to them as racist white supremacists / White Christian Imperialists!

Why now when we didn't hold that opinion when we needed their help?

Reagan was a Democrat who turned Republican.
