This is an important point. So far Garland is doing what he should to ensure that our primary law enforcement agency functions independently of partisan politics. The previous administration did the opposite.
@KPNatsFan 100% Correct. Public trust is key, and Garland is right to appoint a special counsel -- indeed a Trump appointee -- to show the process is not all political. Liberal legal eagles: Stop complaining that he works too hard to ensure an outwardly fair process.
Whether or not one thinks “Garland waited too long, no one should lose sight of this tangible proof of the resilience of our government system: Congress stepped in and made it a priority to ensure that America had the evidence of Trump’s attempted coup.”

Thanks to Congress, the whole dreadful story of the failed coup is now there in black and white, to be read and never forgotten. Now onward to full accountability for the worst offenders before the bar of justice. https://t.co/waT9Ytg3zi

A new @BrookingsGov report asserts that the push by Donald Trump (and allies) to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia leaves him at substantial risk of possible state charges predicated on multiple crimes.

Larry Tribe @tribelaw is right. Sirhan Sirhan, by killing Robert Kennedy, denied America's right of electoral choice. Especially given Jan. 6 and the still-continuing efforts to steal the 2020 election, that is nothing to take lightly.

Folks on the left should stop criticizing AG Garland for avoiding any appearance of political motivation. That is Job 1 for any good AG. And the public trust he is restoring is enabling many actions to hold the Trump-era’s worst malefactors to account. https://t.co/yIjekdAGuu

Barr favorite Michael Sherwin could not be trusted to hold over even briefly as Acting US Atty. He just couldn't resist the cheap thrill of grabbing headlines by discussing an on-going investigation. Like Barr's endless comments on the Durham probe.

No precedent or argument suggests that the power to try impeachment charges is lost when an official leaves office. Because such a trial is essential to carry out the explicit constitutional power to ban from future office.
