Big news for Alaska and the Arctic: A nearly $400 million contract has been awarded to expand the Port of Nome! This contract is an important milestone in building out America’s first deep-water Arctic port to strengthen America’s presence in the Arctic, bolster our national security, and provide economic opportunities for Northwest Alaska.

Since I’ve been in office, I’ve used my seats on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee to secure federal support for this project, including increasing the federal cost-share for the project. The Port of Nome is more than infrastructure—it’s a strategic gateway to the Arctic, and one of the latest great investments in Alaska military might that will ensure the U.S. is a leader in Arctic security, trade, and influence.
