Honored to be sworn in as Texas Comptroller.
I know that every tax dollar belongs to the people.
My focus: root out waste, shine a light on local government spending, and help deliver real property tax relief.
Thank you, Governor @GregAbbott_TX, for your confidence.
The Lord alone is our strength, our refuge, and our salvation. Remember His goodness today.
May the Lord bless you, keep you, and continue to guide you. Have a blessed Sunday!
I don't work for the government. I work for you.
That's why my first act as Texas Comptroller was refusing a taxpayer-funded salary.
I didn't come here for a paycheck.
I came here to be a good steward of your tax dollars and put Texas taxpayers first.
I'm here because I love Texas. And I'll never forget who I work for.
Last night, I joined a great group of Patriots at the @HidalgoCoGOP Lincoln Reagan Dinner.
The Republican Party is strongest when we stand united. From our grassroots volunteers to our statewide leaders, we're working together to keep Texas red.
It was also great to see @GregAbbott_TX, @Mayes_Middleton, @KenPaxtonTX, @ElectAHinojosa, and the new Texas GOP Chairwoman, @DrindaRandall.

“I love it when Texans can keep more of their hard-earned money in their own pocket."
Tax-Free Weekend is one way we help families save as they get ready for the school year.

A well-run business measures performance.
Government should too.
That's why we're conducting performance reviews across the Comptroller's Office to ensure taxpayers are getting the service they deserve.
"As chief financial officer of the state, it is my obligation to ensure that taxpayers have a strong advocate and an alert watchdog looking out for their interests."
That’s exactly what I’m delivering.
Since 1999, Texans have saved more than $2 billion on everything from coats to crayons and scissors to sneakers in preparation for the back-to-school bell.
This holiday initiative isn’t just about short-term relief, it’s a cornerstone of financial support for Texas families, reducing the cost burden of essential educational supplies and clothing.
Texans are expected to save an estimated $142.5 million during this year's sales tax holiday. 🛍️
The tax-free weekend begins Friday, Aug. 7, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 9.

Hello, Patriots!
On Saturday, I was sworn in as your Texas Comptroller and am already working to keep my campaign promises. I told you I would refuse a salary, and that is exactly what I am doing. That's because I don't work for the government. I work for you.
Serving without a salary is a reminder that this office exists to serve the people of Texas, not the other way around. It is a responsibility I take seriously.
The Office of the Texas Comptroller is one of the most important agencies in state government. As the chief financial officer of the eighth-largest economy in the world, the Comptroller is entrusted with safeguarding taxpayer dollars, and providing the financial leadership that helps keep Texas the best place to live and work.
I approach this responsibility with a sense of urgency and a commitment to running government lean and efficient while always putting Texas first.
Thank you again for the trust you've placed in me and your support. Now, let's get to work.

The Texas economy is strong and continues to grow. The increased tax revenue to the state should also put the Legislature in position to deliver meaningful property tax relief during the next legislative session.
Governor @GregAbbott_TX has made this a priority, and I will work with him and all our state leaders to accomplish this goal.
Lowering property taxes will make housing more affordable and free up money in the family budget for everyday expenses like gas and groceries.
Comptroller Don Huffines noted the state's growing economy, saying increased tax revenue should, "...put the Legislature in position to deliver meaningful property tax relief during the next legislative session."

The Comptroller’s Office has over 600 auditors focused on auditing businesses and squeezing money out of them.
Well, I’m going to flip the script.
I’m going to turn half of my auditors loose to audit government.
In 1832, Texas settlers at Nacogdoches took up arms against the local Mexican garrison. Not for independence, but to defend the Constitution of 1824, which had guaranteed their right to self-governance before a new government tried to strip it away. They won, and the garrison surrendered.
