English Professor, blogger for Ms., Writer: DANCING IN RED SHOES WILL KILL YOU about 1989 Montreal Massacre of women engineering students, Inanna Press May 2015
#TyreNichols family asked this be the video we share of him.
Watch it & know Tyre, like all our loved ones, deserved to live a long beautiful life free from state sanctioned murder. For Black & brown folks around the US, police violence is the greatest threat to that future.
Nine years later, let us never forget the 20 students and their six educators whose lives were cut too short far too soon. Remember their faces. Say their names. Sandy Hook Elementary School - 12.14.12. #NeverForget
@JasonReynolds83 Our job is to resist this, do whatever we need to teach our students about REALITY, even when that reality is unflattering. Bottom line: I/we need to sleep at night knowing we have been honest with our young people about where we come from and how we got here. #FranklinPierce
A4: Oof. It harms kids the same way not teaching what's actually in our food harms kids. The fear is that if they knew what was in a McNugget, they wouldn't eat McNuggets, when really that should be the goal. #BannedBooksChat
@JasonReynolds83 Defend against censorship by teaching these stories in our classrooms, and being transparent about WHO and WHY people are censoring. We do this in our Banned Books class at #FranklinPierceUniversity. Happily. Proudly
A3: For the writers, let's keep writing. I think it's okay for work to be challenging, without it being challenged. Our jobs are to do that, IMO. #BannedBooksChat
A3. To quote another #BannedBook, "Constant Vigilance!" Speaking up and defending these books when they are challenged. And demanding that equitable access to diverse stories and information be included in YOUR libraries and schools. #BannedBooksWeek#BannedBooksChat
A1: cont, cont: I often think about how much reading has to do with being able to listen. So, let's incorporate multi-stimulants as far as reading goes to creates wholistic experiences that are engaging and entertaining. Read a chapter, listen to a chapter. #bannedbookschat
A1: I think about this all the time. We first have to accept that sometimes "books" as objects can be intimidating. So what if we allow more freedom when it comes to even how we think about reading. A lot of us have been screaming this for years, but...EVERYTHING COUNTS.
