Counterpoint: Time, money and Broadway theaters are not in unlimited supply. It is not the responsibility of audiences—including critics—to like and support everything artists create. Every not-great work of art is taking space and resources from other, potentially better ones.

@FeldmanAdam I think those leading the critical discourse about an artistic medium should be practitioners, who have the ability to help us understand the brushstrokes and what makes them worth witnessing. But that will never happen, because your actual job is to drive traffic to TimeOut.

@FeldmanAdam But we can agree there are economic impacts in "helping guide audiences"? What if instead the job was to frame the art in such a way that helps find its widest possible audience? As an exercise, let's assume a critics livelihood depends on their being a theater industry at all.
