Sony's plan to drop physical media has sparked global outrage across mainstream media and gaming events🚀
✅Physical games continue to sell millions worldwide (often 40% to 50%+ of total sales in UK, France, Australia and Japan for Resident Evil Requiem and others), proving they are far from niche.
✅Over 60% of countries lack a PlayStation Store, and the platform blocks region changes, locking international users out.
✅Digital libraries are vulnerable to sudden removals without compensation, permanent account bans, server outages, and region-locked codes.
✅Going all-digital kills the used games market, eliminates retail competition, and drives prices up.
✅Publishers manipulate data by bundling microtransactions and DLC into “digital sales” to fake a decline in physical demand.
✅With hardware projected to hit $1,000, multi-year gaps between exclusives, and PC offering better freedom, dropping discs gives players little reason to buy consoles.
Physical media must be preserved, because it means:
1️⃣Preservation
2️⃣Ownership
3️⃣Not tied accounts
4️⃣Second hand market and trading
5️⃣Competitive pricing
Not to mention books, vinyl, and Blu-rays continue to be produced, despite the existence of a far more cost effective and convenient digital alternative.

It’s crazy how XBOX was technically over in the eyes of most players, just few weeks/months ago, and PlayStation was thus untouchable industry and community darling🚀
Look where we are now. Ever since Summer Games Week and there hasn’t been a single good news coming from Sony
❌Plan to end physical games
❌Mo communication with players
❌Holier-than-thou attitude
❌Layoffs
❌Disappointing
❌Burning bridges with Hideo Kojima
❌Disappointing look at Project Espresso
❌Pure greed and disdain for players
Meanwhile Asha Sharma has been doing everything she can to resurrect XBOX, it’s basically Lazarus Box:
✅Lowered Game Pass prices
✅Brought back exclusivity
✅Removed “This is an Xbox” branding
✅Being more transparent with players
✅Collaborating with Kojima on OD & PHYSINT
Now I can’t say I trust any multi-billion dollar corporation, and ultimately it’s the actions that speak louder, but it’s refreshing to see someone trying to make things positive, and build bridges with players.
Sony needs a total reform.
👉Fire your current CEOs and execs
👉Overturn ending physical media
👉Shawn Layden & Shuhei Yoshida as CEOs
👉Apologize sincerely to Hideo Kojima
👉Apologize to players
👉Be transparent
We wouldn’t have it any other way

Sony’s argument against digital game ownership is so weird, and it’s not that they don’t understand🚀
They’re being trying to intentionally confuse owning the digital copy of the game as a product for personal use forever, that can be downloaded and used at any time, even if it was removed from the store, with copyright protection.
The music, movie and game discs I have are mine forever. Nobody’s gonna come confiscate them from me, but it doesn’t mean the copyright of every music album, film and game I own is mine.
Those are two separate conversations that no one has ever confuses.
A game being on a server by Sony that is purchased by a player, does not mean they own the game IP, but it should mean the player can download that game forever, and any licensing issues cannot interrupt that ability, because they bought the right to play that game forever, or else be compensated for the amount they paid for it.
This is how the terms should be redefined. This is what we’re calling for.
We are not against digital games. We are not saying you should have never bought a digital game or ever will.
Our struggle is about putting pressure by saying “we will not buy your games unless you make physical version of them”.
✅Physical games should always be an option, and there IS a huge market for them around the world
❌Digital games should never be just a license that can be revoked at any time without compensation

Asha Sharma, CEO of XBOX, stated that her new strategy for communication with players is radical honesty, insisting that there’s no point in lying, even when things aren’t going well🚀
She added that companies need to be more honest, even when they are falling short, and be more transparent with their customers.
It’s really refreshing to see these words being uttered in the gaming space, especially when the medium has been full of deception, manipulation and highly polished PR world salad, every time something bad happens.
I hope to see her and others follow through and lead by example, and I also hope to see steps being taken to listen to customers and find compromise, rather than just throwing a bitter truth in players’ faces along with a one-sided “solution”🎤
The craziest part about Sony’s self-sabotage, is that you’d imagine after the grave mistake they made by ending physical media, that they’d do a crazy PlayStation Showcase where they reveal 5-7 bangers that get people hyped to forget🚀
But no… they go on telling laughable lies in courts, send emails where they double down on lack of ownership or digital games, make a lame State of Play and now ruin things with Kojima and announce it with a message that is full of lies, poison and PR BS.
XBOX could’ve made Call of Duty and GTA6 exclusives and it wouldn’t have damaged Sony this much.
Keep at it. We’re rooting for a PS3-era level humbling😅
Dear @asha_shar,
Dear @aarongreenberg,
Dear @XBOX team,
You have a once in a lifetime opportunity to win this battle against Sony. There’s only one thing you need to do: support physical games on the next Xbox, make it a key feature and market the hell out of it.
It would take your marketing to a whole new level. You’d be happy and we’d be happy. Make XBOX Great Again 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you and best regards,
Bad Leroy Brown

Cutting ties with Kojima and poor Wolverine reviews are just the latest issues in a difficult generation for PlayStation.
IGN's Matt Purslow on how the platform's future has never looked bleaker: https://t.co/6SeZomdrCV
We need Shawn Layden and/or Shuhei Yoshida to become co-CEOs for PlayStation🚀
They are the only ones that can fix the trainwreck that Jim Ryan, Nishino, Hermen Hulst, Hiroki Totoki and Lin Tao have caused and continue to cause🫡
Here’s a reminder that Kojima sold consoles, and people would’ve flocked to buy PlayStation 6 just to play PHYSINT on it🚀
Death Stranding was always a niche/art house type of game, and he did it because he believed in it, and it brought it 119 Game of the Year awards and various prestigious ones in other categories, and 20 million players.
Sony has been overspending on games ever since 2016, and missing deadlines and having unsustainably long development cycles, with the only exception being Kojima actually delivering games.
He established Kojima Productions by the end of 2015, and already announced Death Stranding in 2016 and launched it in 2019.
And he actually pushed each generation to its limits and created games that are perfectly polished and Director’s Cut scored higher than the OG DS, and DS2 scored even higher.
You don’t bring in Kojima because you just wants profit, you collaborate with him because his presence brings status, honor and awards to whoever he’s collaborating with.
Whoever made the decision to end the collaboration with Kojima on PHYSINT and continues to fund live service that is DOA, is who needs to be fired💿
I hope PHYSINT becomes Xbox exclusive, that would send a clear, strong message
I thought under Phil Spencer the console war was over, and PlayStation won, but under Asha Xbox finally looks ready to compete again
Competition will make Xbox and PlayStation better. Let’s restart the war!
So do we “own” or games or do we not?🚀
Sony has become a total laughingstock for the industry. They’re trying to play with words to prove a point that supports their egomaniac execs but failing miserably😅
If Sony is pinching pennies over Kojima, a dude that brings people to your platform & brings it prestige, I think that says a lot more about them than it does about Kojima going over-budget (I mean, LOOK AT HIS STUFF. Of COURSE it's going over budget LOL) https://t.co/XY9VYxL0ma
Hideo Kojima has announced that his next project, PHYSINT, is no longer in partnership with PlayStation and will instead be released with rival platform Xbox.
The downfall began exactly here, when Sony started acting like they’re ashamed of their Japanese heritage🚀
Everything marginally became different, their whole approach, the way they designed games, what they prioritized..etc.
Meanwhile XBOX is now trying to get closer to Japanese studios, with the most recent high profile one being Hideo Kojima, both with OD and now PHYSINT.
Sony needs to overhaul its current leadership values and figures, and reform. Hubris is going to be their downfall and they can only suck up to Rockstar and hide behind their skirt for so long.
