A teenager holding a white flag shot down from a quadcopter in his own home. A newborn baby shot in the head while breastfeeding inside a tent. These are some of the horrific accounts of Israel’s targeting of Palestinian children from the UN’s latest report. @mehdirhasan shares:
AOC: Mike Johnson paints this as though it’s some partisan witch hunt. But if you don’t want to be prosecuted for crimes, don’t do crimes.
And he’s talking about running a protection racket. And we are already seeing that this Trump administration has run what some have called one of the largest pedophile protection programs in American history.
And so when Mike Johnson tells a group of wealthy donors, I'm the only thing standing between you, and a consequence that should rattle at the conscience of every American.
What he wants to do is create—or rather, not even create, because it’s already been created—but protect a class of impunity in America that says, “You can commit whatever crime, and so long as you pay a check to us, we will protect you.”
And that is a model of extortion in American politics. And you know what? That’s their pitch.
Trump is threatening countries that plan to impose a digital services tax on American companies with a 100% tariff on all goods exported to the US.
This will never happen, and if he is that reckless, the courts would likely overturn the decision quickly.
There is every reason for the EU to impose these taxes, require social media giants to comply with European laws, and ensure that Europeans' data never leaves Europe. For too long, the broligarchs have taken advantage of the European market.
Correct. Many millions of Americans ceased caring about corruption, lawlessness, unconstitutional power grabs, and habitual lying years ago. Our standards have fallen so low as a nation that Vance can brag about getting away with it and still have a political future.
It's actually mind-boggling that @JDVance would say Watergate would be a "10 hour story" today.
Just to review, Nixon's aides authorized a break-in of the DNC HQ to install bugging equipment--in a caper foiled by a night watchman, who called police. They then enlisted the CIA to mislead the FBI that the break-in was related to a probe of malign foreign actors.
The entire operation was paid for by a slush fund controlled by the WH.
The WH also enlisted the IRS to probe hundreds of Nixon's political enemies.
The AG, the WH COS and several other top aides all were convicted and served time for their involvement in the crimes and coverup.
Nixon was caught on his own secret tape system conspiring with them but was pardoned a month after he resigned by his successor, Gerald Ford.
That Vance thinks this would be a "10 hour story" today speaks volumes about the moral and ethical degradation of the Trump era.
Sen. Warren: "What's the annual wage growth right now? It's just a facts question."
Phelan: "I do not have that in front of me right now."
Warren: "It's 3.4%. So let's put this one together. Is 4.2% higher than 3.4%?"
Phelan: "I will repeat what I said, which is real wage growth in this administration is positive."
Sen. Warren: "Right now families are falling behind...You have now made clear what your position is, and that is you can't even do the basic facts...You can't bring yourself as the person who sits there and says, 'I want to be the head of the Council of Economic Advisors,' and you can't even say, 'Yeah, inflation is running higher than wages right now'...I think this person has disqualified himself in five minutes."
They held him down, shaved his locs against his will, and now the Supreme Court says he can't even sue for damages.
The Supreme Court ruled that Damon Landor and other incarcerated people have no recourse, even when their religious beliefs are violated behind prison walls.
His faith wasn't a crime. His locs weren't a threat. But apparently, his rights were expendable.
This can't be the end of the story. https://t.co/8xK4XfUnpT
The 1st Amendment prohibits the govt, including judges, from punishing - or, in this case, levying additional punishment on - people because of their ideological positions. Seems like obvious grounds for appealing the sentences.
Benjamin Song: 100 years
Marisela Rueda: 70 years
Cameron Arnold: 50 years
Savanna Batten: 50 years
Zachary Evetts: 50 years
Bradford Morris: 50 years
Elizabeth Soto: 50 years
Meanwhile, the ICE agents who MURDERED Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and Keith Porter: 0 years in prison.
Protesting is illegal, sympathizing with protestors is illegal, reading books is illegal, using Signal is illegal, wearing all black is illegal
That’s what we have learned from Prairieland
You have no rights, start acting like it
Ossoff: Let's be very clear about what the president is saying to the American people. The president is saying that he will not sign a bill whose purpose is to make housing affordable unless his allies in congress pass a voter suppression bill to rig the election. He is saying, I won't even sign a bill that will give economic relief to Americans unless the rules of this election are changed so that he, Donald Trump, cannot be held accountable for all of his misdeeds because that's what he really fears most of all is that when there is a change in the balance of power, and when we restore checks and balances, he knows that there will be subpoenas flying that officials from his administration will be testifying under oath about the full range of misconduct and corruption that we already know has been happening since the moment he was sworn in.
The most outrageous sentencing since Harmelin in peak drug war 90s.
50 years for being in an Antifa book club and leaving an ICE protest when told to by police. These are not terrorists. These are thought crimes. Guilt by association. Gross violations of 1st and 2nd Amdt rights.
We are amidst a Black Scare. The government has clearly singled out anarchists and anti-fascists for extremely punitive sentences, as to suppress the rise of anti-authoritarian leftism in the US.
We must give support to our political prisoners. There are many more to come.
The anti-ICE protestors persecuted by the government just received their sentences. These are the first prosecutions under Trump's directive that Antifa is a domestic terrorist organization.
For the crime of moving a box of leftist magazines, Daniel Sanchez-Estrada was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
For the crime of attending a protest outside an ICE facility, Zachary Evetts, Autumn Hill, Savanna Batten, Elizabeth Soto, and Meagan Morris were sentenced to 50 years in prison.
For the crime of attending the demonstration and asking her husband (Sanchez-Estrada) to move the magazines, Maricela Rueda was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
For the crime of defending himself with a legal firearm, only firing after a cop raised his gun, a fact that was hidden during the trial, Benjamin Song was sentenced to 100 years in prison.
Americans are being given de-facto life sentences for protesting their government, exercising their freedom of speech, and defending themselves. The fascism you worried about is here.
