Numbers though?
Marchan has triple the ABs compared to Stubbs and is .094 AVG .134 OBP
He’s doing less with more..
Both are below average bats and almost about the same quality. We don’t have riches when it comes to backup backstop.
Team like MIL has Gary Sanchez with a .350 OBP 5 homers for backup
LAD Dalton Rushing .343 OBP 7 homer
I’d be fine to move on from Marchan, or have him back in AAA where he may actually develop a hitting muscle.
Phillies fans need to be realistic about our prospects.
Marchan has fizzled thus far.
I don’t think you can disagree that Marchy hasn’t shown anything yet this year on the offensive side of the dish.
Think Stubbs right now realistically gets you a higher overall offensive output at backup..
I’d be happy to see Marchan figure things out with the bat some.
But also, I think he’s at the point in his career where, hey, he is out of options. Still send him through waivers if you need. This Phillies team needs to be Win-Now. He’s occupying a whole slot on this squad.
JT’s fresh 3-year contract enables you to move on from a floundering Marchan if you really needed.
@CWDonald31415@JeffKerrPHL Well Marchan gets you next to nothing and Stubbs has a Lefty bat to JT’s righty..
I’d think Marchan could do well to be in AAA currently.
I’d keep Stubby up, we’ve learned over a couple seasons that he’s our best in house backup.
And looking at it,
This is largely in place,
Other than keeping Kyle at 1
Trea at 2, Harp at 3
Marsh at 4, Bohm at 5, Stott 6
…
So I guess my theory is that the top and middle just need to have more jiggering,
playing to overpowered handedness splits in a certain order,
Rather than having 1-6 set in stone
They’re just stale in their slots, too
Move ‘em around a bit
Like, if you have Adolis in there, make your “guaranteed out” bat 9. Maybe have him surprise you. He used to swipe bags, he can make the ball leave the yard, and maybe drive runners in. He was never high OBP.
Don’t have that guy 5 or 6th when ice cold.
Crawford ahead of Adolis,
There’s your 8-9, a glorified poor man’s 1-2 down there at the bottom for when the lineup turns over
7. JT/stubbs/marchan
8. Crawford
9. Adolis
….
This tweak alone nets positive for Phils…
Bohm and Stott have been coming around with their bats
1. Marsh (vR) Turner (vL)
2. Schwarber
3. Harper (vR) Bohm (vL)
4. Stott (vR) Harper (vL)
5. Bohm/sosa (vR) Marsh/sosa (vL)
6. Turner/sosa (vR) Stott/sosa (vL)
They’re facsimiles of one another, that being the issue.
Washed vets who hustled and lucked better in their prior years
Would love to see Garcia reactivate.. His glove is still alive.
What was prime Adolis Garcia?
a .225 AVG high slugging player who also swiped you bags.
He was never a high OBP guy, ever.
So if he’s a warm hand, I’m hitting him 4,5,6,
But when he’s cold, I’d hit him 8,9 and could hardly play him.
Ride pine til the bat wakes.
Here’s the dry-breaker lineups:
VRhp:
1. Harper L
2. Marsh L
3. Schwarber L
4. Stott L
5. Crawford L
6. Berroa S
7. Turner R
8. Stubbs L
9. Bohm R
VLHP:
1. Schwarber L
2. Bohm R
3. Turner R
4. Harper L
5. Mundo R
6. Marsh L
7. Berroa S
8. JT R
9. Adolis R
One key point here is Berroa should be getting some real looks, not just pine riding
But you’re right, until you bring up some other fresh blood,
A Felix Reyes, Rincones, Cairo?, Cutch, Dylan Moore, Bryan De La Cruz, Wilmer Flores, Gio Urshela, a Matt Stairs type but Righthanded,
You’re working with that as-is lineup which is begging for 1 more bat, mostly v LHP.
There was an underutilized slot for Otto Kemp in there VLHP, (6th) (only Lefties vLhP should be Kyle and Bryce) but he didn’t quite show up for the cup of coffee
Sweep the shit outta Padres and proceed from there
Adolis should be 7-9 til he finds his way in the desert. Sit him v Righties
Also, Marsh great season, career .218 v L though, 38% K rate v L,
Keep him fresh when Lefties are up, PH him when the Righty comes from the BP.
EVEN though he is serviceable v L this year.
Play to handedness splits more than we have, unload the good hand on opposing bullpen when the opportunity presents, and collect the benefits of that
