Lucy Connolly posted one tweet. She was refused bail, held on remand, and jailed for 31 months.

Amar Ilyas was accused of raping children at gunpoint. Operation Stovewood arrested him. And then a court released him on unconditional bail. He fled to Pakistan.

Convicted in his absence of twelve rapes, five of them against a girl under 13, and sentenced to 27 years that he is not serving. His barrister told the court he was taking instructions from his client in Pakistan.

He is one of the men I found in a single week of reading public records. How many more there are, nobody in government can tell you.

This latest dispatch is a story no newsroom dare tell and no government department wants to exist.

No. You did not “mistakenly” say it. You pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation. You deliberately reported your work phone as stolen to Aviva so they would issue you a new one. That is what the court record says. That is what you admitted to. Calling it a simple mistake after all these years is just another version of the same dishonesty.

A spent conviction does not rewrite what happened. It does not turn a deliberate false representation into an innocent error. And it certainly does not entitle you to demand a “second chance” at the highest levels of government while you continue to soft-pedal the facts.

You resigned as Transport Secretary in 2024 when this became public. Andy Burnham then brought you straight back as First Secretary of State. That is not accountability.

If after more than a decade you still cannot be honest and describe your own fraud without watering it down, you have no business anywhere near the levers of power.

President Trump just told the world that illegal immigration is “killing your country” and that Andy Burnham will eventually have to confront it—because Starmer didn’t, and the boats keep coming.

Burnham cannot stay silent. When the President of the United States publicly diagnoses your border failure as national self-harm and frames the Channel crossings as an “invasion,” silence is not neutrality.
It is an admission that the new government still has no serious plan, no numbers it is prepared to defend, and no political courage to put British sovereignty above the political comfort of its own base.
