iām a boomer, I remember this stuffā¦
How It Used To Be
It took three minutes for the TV to warm up.
Nobody owned a purebred dog.
A quarter was a decent allowance and made with real silver.
Your Mom wore stockings that came in two pieces - one for each leg.
You didn't pay for air.
You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time.
Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box and you got trading stamps too.
And don't forget Crackerjacks! A prize in every box.
Teachers threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed...and they did it.
No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked. This sometimes applied to house keys, too.
Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules.
Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to kill a perfect stranger with mass-distributed poison.
Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside.
Blackjack, Clove, Pepsin and Teaberry chewing gum.
Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers.
Telephone numbers with a word prefix. And no area code for local calls.
78's and 45's - no, not guns.
S&H Green Stamps
Mimeograph machines
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a peashooter or a slingshot.
Saturday morning cartoons weren't commercials for action figures.
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon and war was a card game.
People "went steady."
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny - made with real copper. (I still do...giggle).
āOlly-olly-oxen-freeāmade perfect sense.
People didnāt go into schools, bars, festivals, or stadiums
and shoot strangers just for the hell of it.
and I was particularly lucky because I grew up in a mixed- race neighborhood for the first nine years of my life so Iāve always been colorblind and unafraid of difference.
Having said this, there was plenty of hypocrisy & bullshit back then too-particularly #racism #sexism #homophobia and letās not forget lead paint and asbestos, too.
Of course now we have newly-intensified #racism/#misogyny #homophobia
#theocracy mass shootings the rollback of womenās bodily autonomy, book censorship, a congress infested with insurrectionists, religious whackjobs, and an ex- President whoās a convicted sex offender who had other sexual offenders ā mostly pedophiles ā working in the local areas of his campaign and yes, Iāve documented it so donāt give me any shit ā and was found to have stolen classified government documents in his personal residenceā¦and who also happens to be a racist, a scammer, and a grifter who admires Hitler and wants to run for president again.
and donāt forget, if you or I were found with stolen classified government documents in our basement weād be sitting in jail right now. Kind of makes you wonder just how high up and down deep this corruption goes, doesnāt it? And donāt get me going on Scotusā¦
BREAKING: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis humiliates MAGA lawyer Ashleigh Merchant, snapping back at Merchant and telling Merchant, "donāt be cute with me" during a heated under oath exchange at todayās court hearing.
It all started when Willis took the stand to testify in front of a judge who is considering whether or not to disqualify her from prosecuting Trump in the Georgia election trial.
Merchant is a lawyer representing former Trump campaign official Michael Roman, who is a co-defendant in the Georgia case. She filed court documents accusing Willis of having a "clandestine" relationship with the special prosecutor she hired to help with the Trump case.
Willis has denied allegations that her relationship with the prosecutor, Nathan Wade, began prior to November 2021 when he became special prosecutor. In other words, there was nothing inappropriate about it.
During the hearing, Merchant attempted to grill Willis and absurdly insinuated financial malfeasance.
"Did you ever pay him through Cash App?" Merchant asked, referring to bill reimbursement.
"No," said Willis.
"You only ever paid him through cash?"
"What? Yes. We're talking aboutā I'm very confused now," said Willis, understandably thrown by the odd line of questioning.
"You never paid Mr. Wade through Cash App?" asked Merchant.
"No," said Willis.
"The only money you've ever given him outside of a contract is cash," said Merchant.
"I didn't give him money in a contract so that was cute, but I didn't give him money in a contract," said Willis.
"What happenedā No we're going to answer it since you said," continued Willis, refusing to be cut off. "He worked. He worked more hours than he was paid and the county paid him for the work that he did. So don't be cute with me and then think that you're not gonna get an answer."
The two went back and forth a bit, with Merchant rambling. Willis said that she handed cash to Wade on only a few occasions, and never gave him checks or paid him through an app.
"So you have no proof of any reimbursement for any of these things because it was all cash?" said Merchant.
"The testimony of one witness is enough to prove a fact," said Willis. "Are you telling me that I'm lying to you, is that what you're intimating right here?"
"I'm asking if you have any proof that you paid him," said Merchant.
"The proof is what I just told you," said Willis bluntly.
During another contentious exchange, Willis ripped into Merchant again.
"Your office objected to us getting Delta records for flights that you may have taken with Mr. Wade," said Merchant.
"No, no, look I object to you getting records," said Willis. "You've been intrusive into people's personal lives. You're confused. You think I'm on trial, these people are on trial for trying to steal an election in 2020. I'm not on trial no matter how hard you try to put me on trial."
Brilliant. You can see why Trump and his cronies are trying so hard to get Willis removed from the case. She is a formidable woman who poses a serious threat to Trump's freedom.
Justice must be defended. Fani Willis must be allowed to stay on this case.

Everyone should carefully read this excellent piece on Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment by @stevenportnoy of @abcaudio. This is not only what journalism about the Constitution looks like, it's also what constitutional scholarship looks like.

BREAKING: Donald Trump gets shockingly bad news as the state of New Hampshire announces that it is "now carefully reviewing the legal issues involved" behind calls to remove Trump's name from the state's 2024 ballot ā an apocalyptic scenario for the former president.
In a bombshell joint statement, New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella and Secretary of State David M. Scanlan stated that they are "aware of public discourse regarding the potential applicability" of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
This particular section disqualifies those who have taken an oath to support the Constitution from ever running for office again if they have "engaged in insurrection or rebellion."
Some Republicans are even pushing for Trump's removal from the ballot. Bryant "Corkyā Messner, a Senate nominee who was actually endorsed by Trump, used the Amendment section to question Trump's eligibility.
While Formella and Scanlan insist that no decision has yet been made, the mere fact that this idea is now being publicly floated by the state's top officials is a terrible sign for MAGA.
The simple fact is that Trump should be barred from holding office ever again. He's a traitor and given the chance he will try to overthrow our democracy again.

BREAKING: CNBC drops bombshell, reveals that āseveralā of Trumpās āallies who are now facing criminal chargesā for helping Trump try to steal Bidenās win āwere never paid by the Trump political operation for work they did in 2020.ā
The list of names is downright hilariousā¦
CNBC reports that none others than Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and John Eastman got STIFFED by Trump ā even though they not only destroyed their political careers ā but have now recently been indicted with SERIOUS criminal charges that carry massive prison sentences.
But it gets even worse for Trumpās disgraced, criminal lawyersā¦
CNBC reports that Trump raked in whopping $250 million in donations off of his lawyers pushing his Big Lie ā but funneled the money into his own āSave Americaā political PAC and left his foolishly loyal lawyers without a penny ā and that Trump then instead used the money to pay āan armyā of OTHER lawyers to defend HIMSELF from his own myriad of criminal charges.
Laughingly, CNBC reports that Trump gave them a āverbal handshakeā to pay them in full.
Itās poetically hilarious that Giuliani, Powell, and Eastman actually took the mob boss at his word.
Unfortunately for Trump, his grift is backfiring for him, because CNBC reports that Trumpās āfailure to pay Giuliani and his team came up last week in a private interview between prosecutors on Special Counsel Jack Smithās team and Bernard Kerik, a member of Giulianiās team in late 2020.ā
The CNBC report continues, āMatthew Morgan, an election lawyer for the Trump campaign, recalled to the House select committee in 2022 that Giuliani requested $20,000 a day from the Trump political operation to fight the election results. Working five days a week for two months, November and December of 2020, this would have amounted to around $800,000 in legal fees. But Giuliani never got it.ā
The best part about this story is not only that some of the most corrupt lawyers in America got stiffed, but also that, by stiffing his own lawyers, Trump only helped dig his very own political grave.
Please retweet and ā¤ļø if you think that they must ALL be thrown in prison ā and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a āwokeā new Twitter competitor that is exploding in popularity because it banned Trump for life and because Elon Musk banned Tribelās Twitter account ā but he forgot to ban this link to download the new Tribel app: https://t.co/0c9FDbB14A
