When unhoused people offer you a gift in response to things that you have given them, you take it, and you say thank you. It doesn’t matter if you don’t need or want it.

B/C people deserve to not be stripped of their dignity.

If you’re unlucky enough to be poor in Portland finding yourself an apartment that might actually be affordable requires lot of legwork, some luck, & the patience of Job.

If you are looking to get into subsidized housing in the Portland Metro Reach CDC has some open waitlist right now (more in the coming weeks). Some of them are age specific and all of them have income caps at least below 60% area median income (AMI)

Hey all, so we decided after having this heartfelt emotional send-off that we actually are going to keep things going for a little while longer. We’ve decided we are, instead of cutting laundry altogether, that we are going to shift to a more manageable 1st Saturday of the month.

And so as our capacity for this work changes we must announce our little project out of the basement of St Mark’s Lutheran is coming to an end w our last load of laundry being done May 11th.

If you are interested in getting involved please reach out. The way we can make this more manageable and reliable for those who use the service is by involving more folks and who can make things less volatile as individual schedules change.

In fact if you’ve been dropping off clothing and outdoor survival supplies at St Mark’s we encourage you to continue to do so as @h4apdx uses that space for a donation drop-off point as well.

Got COVID and today is day 3 of feeling absolutely retched but spending a lot of time being thankful of my housing. Right now I have a hard time imagining how rough it must be to be sick w/o running water, w/o loads of easy to prep food, w/o near endless supplies of dry blankets

Tiffany with Multnomah County Health Department is handing out more than 200 doses of Narcan during Blanchet House’s lunch service. Our guests are very grateful to have this live-saving treatment on hand. Many street drugs now contain large amounts of synthetic fentanyl which is causing overdoses and deaths. Last week, three people died in one day with more than 11 overdosing in a small area of downtown Portland. And those are only the reported overdoses. Life is not disposable to us and we must give people a chance to better their lives.

Idea that unhoused ppl don’t want to get housed is a convenient lie those who benefit from present social order toss around a lot. And lot of us bought it. I even hear it from unhoused folk
Funny thing: 10yrs of this work only met 1 person who told me they wanted to stay outside

Imagine most of your clothes being wet b/c you live outside in a PNW Spring and choosing to skip laundry day b/c city contractors might take your shelter in the 10min you are gone. Imagine the health impacts of never having clean/dry clothing.

Today we had someone tell us they can’t come to do their laundry this week because they’d had their camp posted and for sometime today or tomorrow. Imagine debating the risks of dropping off your laundry and wondering if you’ll still have somewhere to sleep when you get back.
