Montgomery County councilmembers were told Thursday morning that Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is considering laying off 143 teachers to make its budget work, according to Councilmember Will Jawando.

Here’s what I don’t get about the @mcps plan for teachers cuts. $30 million is less than 1% of the budget and still well over last years budget… and they decide to make cuts in the worst place (teachers). It almost seems like they’re doing it on purpose to get a rise out of teachers. It’s not right.

Is this just a political ploy to try to get back at the council for not “fully funding” the budget? Now the teachers will presumably be upset at the council instead of MCPS who needs to be held accountable for budgeting and decision making.

@kubiakchemistry The exam also underwent a redesign in 2014 so all FRQs since then have been varied in content but consistent in format and style. I have compiled a doc broken down by topic for those FRQs and can DM if you don’t mind

@kubiakchemistry The AP Chemistry Teachers group on Facebook is a really valuable resource. During COVID shutdowns, a big collaborative group spearheaded by Emily Miller made topic notes and practice using the “I Do, We Do, You Do” model and there’s one for every single topic.

Ss had authentic discussions about the distributions of electrons within an electron cloud, were very conscious of partial positive (low electron density) and partial negative (high electron density) charges, and reinforced their understanding of atomic radii. #ChemEd #APChem

An #AACT resource enlightened me to the versatility of these two-sided counting chips for modeling. I created an intermolecular forces modeling activity with different scenarios and had students gallery walk and generate “I Notice, I Wonder” statements. #ChemEd #APChem

Here are the scenarios I used to start. Experts stayed behind at the tables and had to explain their models. When we shared “I Notice, I Wonder” statements, students were able to revise their models. They noted consistencies and inconsistencies between groups. #ChemEd #APChem

@IBchemmilam I haven’t been able to dive in too much yet, but I really like that each topic has a Student Struggles and Phenomena section. It’s a great affirmation of what I’m seeing with some of my students to know that others experience the same. Very practical.

It’s been a tough year to find time to be active here, but one thing that greatly impacted my students in AP Chem was the ability to efficiently conduct lab work. The final project for them was to pick a lab skill and make lab tutorial videos. They did an amazing job. #ChemEd
