Fungi are essential to the Forest's ecosystem and web of life. They are important recyclers, provide food for animals, and communicate with the plants & trees around them. Look out for them across #DorsetForests at this time of year and remember some are poisonousπππ
#ForestFactFriday Did you know boggy areas of #DorsetForests are vital habitats for some of Englandβs rarest plants? The #sundew's leaves have a sticky lure that closes around its prey, digesting and extracting all the minerals it needs from insects.
On #BogDay we are celebrating Dorset's amazing bogs, mires & #peatlands π
They play a vital role in supporting wildlife, capturing carbon, & helping to combat the impact of climate change.

A team of 22 of our amazing wood wardens, staff from @APHAgovuk and @NE_Wessex recently cleared over 225kgs of Pitcher Plants at Wareham Forest. These invasive & non-native plants damage native plants & insects that are vital for this area.
What a great team effort ππͺ

Bees are essential for life & the environment. ππ
We're using innovative technology to track bee populations & learn how they are changing. This devices listens for wing beats & counts the number of bees.
This will help inform how we care for #DorsetForests.

Four years ago today a #Wildfire took hold at Wareham Forest. Started by disposable BBQs, it burnt for 3 weeks & destroyed 220 hectares of precious forest.
It's a lasting reminder of why we ask everyone to please #BringAPicnicNotABBQ & prevent this happening again @DWFireRescue
An amber wildfire warning has been issued for Dorset this weekend. π₯
If your enjoying time in #DorsetForests please remember that BBQs and campfires are banned here and help us protect this special place. π
