Like Jürgen Klinsmann said for years, our best players have to play in Europe. That will make the national team better and help develop the game in the US.
Jürgen was heavily criticized for saying it, but years later we’re seeing exactly that scenario play out.
The growth of soccer in the US comes from the national team, not our domestic leagues. Outside of the US, nobody really cares about our domestic leagues, but every four years the world watches how countries develop.
Thank God we have a lot of guys playing overseas instead of domestically, and that’s one of the main reasons we’ve developed. I know nobody talks about it because people are scared for their jobs.
US Soccer is the foundation of our success and growth in this country.
Mauricio Pochettino said that ‘American sports reward losers’ when asked about the style of play in top European nations vs. in the U.S. 😯🇺🇸
QUESTION: “We know how England, France, Spain play… Players from countries with a strong tradition have a recognizable style. What is the style of the US team? What kind of football do the Americans want to play?”
ANSWER: “Their culture is playful. They want to play. We told them, “Guys, playing soccer is one thing, competing is another.” They’re two completely different sports. They grow up in a culture of playing. Why? If you start in MLS and you haven’t won a game in three months and you’re at the bottom, what’s the consequence if there’s no promotion or relegation, no international competition? American sports reward losers! But soccer is different: if you reward those who don’t win… If you don’t have goals, you don’t fight. If I lose, what happens? Nothing. They just fire the coach. Also, the American player is disciplined. But with a sense of complacency that isn’t good in soccer. It took us a year and a half to change that mentality.”

A daily reminder that youth soccer is the way it is in our country because of how the pro-game is organized (lack of pro/rel and an open ecosystem). Anyone saying youth soccer is the problem in this country doesn’t get it and/or is compromised.
Youth soccer is a symptom.
Washington just won a men's college national championship with a roster where 20 of 29 are from the state. Wonderful evidence that recruiting locally still works at the highest level of college soccer.
PARENTS: When you blame other things (officials, coaches, conditions, circumstances, teammates) for the situation your son or daughter is in, then you're essentially teaching your child how to be an excuse maker. Set the standard. Be the standard.
🗣️ Frenkie de Jong:
“I will never forget Leo Messi's pass against us, an impossible pass, not even in a dream.. Van Dijk spoke to me after the match and told me, "Messi is not normal… There is a secret inside him… How did he pass it?”” 🇳🇱😲
It’s extremely naive to believe that a new coach solves our #USMNT problems
If we won’t admit our ⚽️ problems run deeper that the NT HC, we will never be able to have an internationally competitive team
