@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 I'm sorry to hear this. My DMs are open if you'd like to chat. I certainly agree that this doesn't fix root issues.
But, I've definitely experienced it as one of many little stings that reinforce the idea that most people aren't really on the side of the suffering.
@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 Same. Not everyone in this situation is exactly like you. At least some of them are experiencing emotional chaos they can't readily control. Eggshells are often present whether you want to acknowledge them enough to avoid stepping on them, or not.
@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 Not about saving. It's about avoiding pushing fragile people closer to the edge. Obviously saving takes quite a lot more and is not always possible.
@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 It does. To commit is connotatively associated with crime. My body, no crime.
And people do actually get explicit with this idea and go further, toward insisting on the selfishness of suicide. Again, this is a small part of a bigger thing.
@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 On a personal note, I've attempted suicide in the past and still find myself flirting with the idea occasionally.
And actually, yes, the implication that I do not own my own body has sent me further in this direction, in the past. 🤷♂️
@flowernthevine@northernheckler@adamfare1996 Understanding goes a long way. And demonizing the act can go a long way in the other direction - it's part of what leaves people isolated when desperate.
This is a very small and simple part of that. Suicidal people do hear the way people discuss suicide.
@superwomanjenni@Bonniezilla No. The back and forth has a different rhythm than many are used to, but it's not automatically absent.
I, like many autistics, enjoy people who communicate this way.
We weren't able to smuggle in entire meals. No. But we did smuggle in memories. Taste memories. Memories of freedom. Memories of the last time someone had tasted this vegetable or that. It was a beautiful time. It didn't last.
If you're autistic, there's a high chance you've minimized your thoughts, your ideas, your needs, your challenges, your accomplishments, your creativity, your enthusiasm, your sadness, your frustration, your energy, your compassion, your value.
All of you deserves to be seen.
@pfitzer_jessica I kind of have to keep level of sensory input within a pretty narrow range to keep my attention where I want it. I'm constantly shifting back and forth between blocking out or creating stimulation to find balance.. sometimes both simultaneously, but with different senses.
@_Nick_Diller Is it possible they're taking about words, specifically? A lot of my internal conversations skip those and just use bundles of memories and imagined sensory experiences instead. It's higher def than language, if a little harder to record or share.
