When Pastor Adeboye apologized for his previous stance on tithing, what happened to the lives already impacted by that doctrine?
When Pastor Kumuyi walked back the doctrine on television ownership, what happened to the families whose lives were altered by it?
These mistakes persisted because we cultivated a toxic culture where "a man of God can never be wrong."
That silence is why these leaders only addressed their errors decades later.
While an apology is welcome, a simple "sorry" cannot undo years of real consequences.
I am a Deeper Life member. I still attend church, and I deeply respect Pastor Kumuyi.
But pastors are human, they can make mistakes.
We need a healthy culture of discernment where people can test what they hear. That is the only way to prevent widespread doctrinal harm.
Labeling anyone who questions Apostle Arome’s statements as "anti-Christ" is dangerous.
It’s the exact same reflex we saw when people first raised questions about Adeboye’s tithing message.
Unquestioning deference, accepting whatever your lecturer says, whatever your pastor preaches, and whatever an elder dictates is a major reason Nigeria is where it is today.
Demanding veracity and calling out inconsistencies does not make anyone anti-Christ. It makes them accountable Christians and responsible citizens.
Do better.
