68 years ago today, on July 25th, 1956 a baseball miracle took place before a sparse crowd at Forbes Field.
In his sophomore year with the #Pittsburgh Pirates, Roberto Clemente came to bat with the bases loaded, nobody out, and his team trailing the Chicago Cubs 8-5 in the bottom of the ninth at Forbes Field. He faced pitcher Jim Brosnan.

As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported:
"Brosnan made one pitch, high and inside. Clemente drove it against the light standard in left field. Jim King had backed up to make the catch but it was over his head. The ball bounced off the slanted side of the fencing and rolled along the cinder path to center field. Here came Hank Foiles, Bill Virdon and then Dick Cole, heading home and making it easily. Then came Clemente into third. Bobby Bragan had his hands up-stretched to hold up his outfielder. The relay was coming in from Solly Drake. But around third came Clemente and down the home path. He made it just in front of the relay from Ernie Banks. He slid, missed the plate, then reached back to rest his hand on the rubber with the ninth run in a 9-8 victory as the crowd of 12,431 went goofy with excitement."

Little did the crowd know but the play that ended the Pirates-Cubs game on July 25, 1956. was, in fact, the ONLY walk-off, inside-the-park grand slam in baseball history.

This male sumatran orangutan is Raku: he got a wound on his right cheek. Scientists were surprised to spot him applying a medicinal plant on his face: akar kuning (Fibranaurea tinctoria), a type of climbing vine that acts as an analgesic.

After about 8 days he applied the chewed stems and leaves of the plant, the wound began to heal and in approximately a month he completely recovered.

Michelle and I loved the seders we held in the White House, and the story of Passover – with its focus on resilience, redemption, and renewal in the face of persecution and uncertainty. Today it rings even more true.

BREAKING: Morning Joe Scarborough publicly humiliates Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel by banning her from his show after his network hires her as a political analyst — and then brutally tears into her.

He really didn’t pull his punches this time...

Over the weekend, MSNBC President Rashida Jones called numerous hosts at the network and told them that they have NO obligation to allow McDaniel on their shows.

Scarborough started off his segment by addressing the McDaniel hiring in the first place—

"I know you won't be surprised to know that we've been inundated with calls this weekend, as have most people connected with this network, about NBC's decision to hire her," said Scarborough.

"We learned about the hiring when we read about it in the press on Friday," he went on. "We weren't asked our opinion of the hiring, but if we were, we would have strongly objected to it for several reasons, including but not limited to, as lawyers might say, Ms. McDaniels' role in Donald Trump's fake elector scheme and her pressuring election officials to not certify election results while Donald Trump was on the phone."

Co-host Mika Brzezinski then jumped in—

"To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage, but it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier," she said. "And we hope that NBC will reconsider its decision. It goes without saying that she will not be a guest on 'Morning Joe' in her capacity as a paid contributor."

Morning Joe then played a clip of McDaniel on NBC's Meet the Press during which stood up for her disgusting decision to help in the efforts to subvert the 2020 election.

"Exhausting," said Brzezinski after the clip ended.

"We don't need to sort through a lot here," said Scarborough. "Let's just focus in on what I think history will focus in on, if you don't mind me stepping into your lane for a minute. Because she really summed up the sickness in the Republican Party.”

"When asked by Kristen Welker, why did you go along with the whitewashing of political violence?" he went on. "Why didn't you speak out against those who tried to overturn American democracy, those who beat the hell out of cops, those who rioted at the United States Capitol at the instruction of Donald Trump, the guidance of Donald Trump, the inspiration of Donald Trump? Why not? She said: 'Sometimes you have to take one for the team.'"

"I suppose that's what Lindsey Graham will tell us after all of this is over, what Marco Rubio might tell us after all of this is over," Scarborough said. "I could go down the long list of people who used to be conservative Republicans who are now a member of Donald Trump's cult.

"But I do think those words, 'take one for the team,' when you're asked why you didn't stand up and speak out against political violence that was focused on overturning American democracy, I think those are words that, unfortunately, describe the Republican Party over the past seven years," he added.

On August 8, 1982, a line drive foul ball hit a four year old boy in the head at Fenway.

Jim Rice, realizing in a flash that it would take EMTs too long to arrive and cut through the crowd, sprang from the dugout and scooped up the boy.

He laid the boy gently on the dugout floor, where the Red Sox medical team began to treat him.

When the boy arrived at the hospital 30 minutes later, doctors said, without a doubt that Jim's prompt actions saved the boy's life. Jim returned to the game in a blood-stained uniform. A real badge of courage.

After visiting the boy in the hospital, and realizing the family was of modest means, he stopped by the business office and instructed that the bill be sent to him.
