A Forever Canadian supporter has come forward, alleging that the movement has been contradicting Canadian values and preventing healthy dialogue from taking place.

In an interview with @JasperCSTV , the supporter claims members of the movement have been advised not to engage with those asking questions. She says these tactics have left her with more uncertainty and are further dividing everyday Albertans.

The supporter alleges that Thomas Lukaszuk is driving these measures while avoiding open discourse himself. When confronted by people with questions, Lukaszuk has allegedly resorted to threats, including telling one pro-debate advocate @WScafemirror that he and his friends would do everything in their power to have their citizenship revoked.

@LukaszukAB is also a founder of the Canadian Halal Financial Corporation, a company established to provide Sharia-compliant financing. The company has promoted accessibility to Canadians who agree to its terms, while its financing model incorporates religious oversight, including consultation with Islamic scholars and, in some circumstances, involvement of an Imam.

After spending six figures and nearly two years developing and successfully launching the company, Lukaszuk and the Al Rashid Mosque have reportedly had a falling out. The six-figure legal costs and roughly two-year development period have previously been publicly reported.

Lukaszuk has accused the mosque of taking a profit.

The Al Rashid Mosque has declined to respond.

Most Albertans probably don’t know this.

Ottawa still has a Pierre Trudeau-era power on the books that Ottawa can use to impose an export charge of up to $55.65 per barrel on Alberta oil shipped to the United States.

Section 5 of the Energy Administration Act allows Prime Minister Carney to impose the export tax on Alberta by Order in Council, and specifically allows him to vary it based on where the oil comes from and where it is going.

No new Act of Parliament is required.

With Canada-U.S. trade tensions rising, Ottawa has too much power over Alberta’s most important export.

As I watch this trade war unfold between Carney and the United States, there’s an interesting game of chess taking shape.

One of Canada’s strongest pieces of leverage against the Americans is Alberta’s oil.

If this trade dispute continues to deteriorate, Ottawa could eventually look at taxing, restricting or otherwise using Alberta’s energy exports as leverage against the United States. The problem is that doing so could inflict enormous damage on Alberta’s economy.

And this is where the timing becomes incredibly important.

The most damaging U.S. tariffs threatening Ontario’s manufacturing economy are not expected to fully hit until January 2027. Alberta votes on Option 2 on October 19.

That means the October vote could fundamentally change Ottawa’s calculation before the trade war reaches its most dangerous point.

If Albertans reject Option 2 and the threat of an independence referendum disappears, I believe Carney will have far more political room to put Alberta oil on the table.

If Option 2 succeeds, Ottawa has a very different problem.

Suddenly, using Alberta’s economy as a bargaining chip risks pouring gasoline on an independence movement that has already demonstrated it can win at the ballot box.

That is why Option 2 matters even if you are a federalist.

You do not have to support Alberta independence today to understand the value of leverage. If you simply want a better deal for Alberta and do not want Ottawa sacrificing our economy to protect its political base in Central Canada, keeping the threat of independence alive forces Ottawa to think twice.

That pressure disappears if Option 2 loses.

Then there is Trump.

Personally, I don’t think Trump has much incentive to publicly boost Alberta independence. We just watched the liberals successfully use anti-American sentiment to rally their political base. Trump openly involving himself in Alberta’s independence debate could hand Carney exactly the political weapon he wants.

In fact, this confrontation with the United States benefits the liberals politically in several ways. It creates an external enemy, fuels a sense of Canadian nationalism, gives them someone else to blame for economic weakness and provides political cover for massive new government spending.

Trump does not need to say anything about Alberta.

The trade war itself creates the pressure.

As January approaches, Ottawa may eventually have to decide what it is willing to sacrifice to protect Ontario’s economy and its own voter base.

I do not want that sacrifice to be Alberta.

That is why I believe Albertans should support Option 2 on October 19.

Keep the threat of an independence referendum alive. Keep the pressure on Ottawa. And make it politically dangerous for the Carney government to use Alberta’s economy and the livelihoods of Albertans as a bargaining chip.
