I have been off Twitter for 3 months, and I find life better without it. I just came back on to permanently delete my account, but I can’t find the Delete Account command. Do I need to do that on a computer rather than an iPad?
@jflory204@Cronewomanchane@PresidentCLC@CharlieAngusNDP By today’s standards, both Trudeau and Poilievre are “fairly rich”. In fact, their net worth at this point is about the same. And if you contrast Liberal tax policy to Conservative tax policy, Poilievre is the one who protects only the interests of rich people like himself.
@jflory204@Cronewomanchane@PresidentCLC@CharlieAngusNDP Okay, I’ll put it simply. Your point about “the definition of the common man” was irrelevant to the previous respondent’s point: Poilievre’s parliamentary record has shown little concern for the welfare of the average person. His background is irrelevant.
@jflory204@Cronewomanchane@PresidentCLC@CharlieAngusNDP I guess your point was that because Poilievre was raised in a middle class environment and Trudeau’s family was fairly rich, Poilievre is more in touch with the common man. I don’t think that is necessarily true.
@jflory204@Cronewomanchane@PresidentCLC@CharlieAngusNDP Just pointing out an interesting irony. Also, that being “the common man” isn’t really relevant to the job of PM. If teachers are “the definition of the common man”, that’s me, but I can guarantee you that I would be a very bad PM. ;-)
Maybe the PM should be exceptional
Poilievre's economics are a hodgepodge: both authoritarian & libertarian. Only consistent thread: foment anger to direct at federal institutions. That got him elected CPC leader. But it’s a terrible way to run an economy. My take for @TorontoStar https://t.co/lpCskhRqUt #cdnpoli
@scrammer73@NarWets @mat_schmaltz @PierrePoilievre I think his incoherent libertarianism would do more harm than good. He hasn’t put forward any credible ideas to deal with the problems causing the discontent he exploits, but it is probably good that he is putting pressure on the government to address the affordability crisis.
@scrammer73@NarWets @mat_schmaltz @PierrePoilievre The infrastructure to do that doesn’t exist for all the same reasons it didn’t exist at the end of Stephen Harper’s time in power.
@JennyNorth22@bruceanderson Canada did better than most at getting many people vaccinated quickly. Also, I have read that in general jurisdictions where people have a sense of social solidarity and are compliant with public health measures fared better than places where a libertarian mindset is prevalent.
@JennyNorth22@bruceanderson Canada’s population/surface area ratio doesn’t explain our success at handling Covid relative to other countries. Canada is one of the most urbanized countries in the world, with the vast majority of our population concentrated on a tiny fraction of our territory.
@jflory204@Cronewomanchane@PresidentCLC@CharlieAngusNDP So now teachers, who provincial Conservatives always denigrate as a pampered and overpaid elite whenever they want to cut education budgets, have become “the definition of the common man.” That’s good. ;-)
More good news on sars-2 vaccines: they appear to prevent long covid (we've been waiting for answers to this question). A propensity matched cohort from the UK found that 2+ doses of vaccine decreased adjusted long covid risk by 41% (95% CI 31%-50%).
