O Come, O Come Emmanuel is my favourite Advent carol. I love Skillet's daring approach to this classic. While travelling in New Zealand and Australia my social media feed filled with posts calling this version "demonic." The contrast between the peaceful beginning and hard rock/grunge towards the end is jarring, and appropriately speaks to our yearning for Emmanuel in a broken world. Oh my Christian friends, why must you be so critical. https://t.co/jh5DpYtN4M
Visiting Susan and Chris in New Zealand, but most importantly Freya the grand puppy who evacuated from the Fort McMurray wildfire with us and is now 10 years old! What a beautiful place.
The closest Alliance church to us is Glen Orchard Community Church, at 50 kilometres away. Pastor Richard Freeman is doing an excellent work with this church plant, that is revitalising an older closed church. It was a great Sunday connecting with our Alliance family. God is at work in this little church that is full of so much potential. #churchinmuskoka
On this Indigenous Veterans Day, we remember the huge effort of Indigenous Canadians put into securing our freedom. Here's one story. (Video from Historica Canada/ Heritage Minute)
Apparently sighting in your hunting rifle creates angst for Facebook. Hopefully it’s doesn’t create too much angst for my friends Facebook will allow to see this. 😜#huntingseason
This was how I used to celebrate Halloween! I’m loving Muskoka but the gun season doesn’t start until November 3 and goes to the 16th. Not sure time is going to allow me to get out. Retirement is busy!. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Connecting with some friends from decades past sighting in rifles and chasing a few grouse. Didn’t bring any home but had an awesome day. Thanks Rod, Tom and Bryan.
Reading the First Nations Version of the New Testament after finishing the Bible in the New Revised Standard Version (Updated Edition). The FBV is what’s called a “dynamic equivalence” translation seeking to express the Bible through the idiom of indigenous culture.
My practice is to keep reading through the Bible using a different version every time. I’m enjoying how the FNV sheds a fresh perspective on the biblical text while remaining faithful to the concepts of the original languages.
My indigenous friends might find this to be an encouraging and inspiring read.
Thanks to @chriswignall who introduced me to the FNV.
This is awesome! “Hi I’m Brandon… I work in Alberta’s dirty oilfields.” Love it! Hey I love where I am but miss where I’m from. Thank you @fiercefocusvisuals for the pics. #northernalberta
ake a look at this non Christian media take on the Gen Z resurgence in faith. There are stats out there that are more positive than these, especially in Britain and Europe. I see it happening here in Muskoka. At least what's happening is getting noticed. Pray that this resurgence grows and grows.
Side note: St. Paul's Bloor Street in Toronto is where the "Toronto Catacombs" met on Thursday Nights in the 70's. It came out of the Jesus People movement, impacting my life and thousands of others. Forty years later God is at work again among 18 to 30 year olds, and it's amazing to watch.
