Just so you have it, here's why postal votes are a good thing and who they help:

- It enables military personnel and overseas citizens to vote.
- Helps carers.
- Helps elderly people vote.
- Helps students who are studying away from home.
- Supports people living abroad (British citizens overseas).
- Avoids people needing to take time off work (unpaid).
- Helps disabled and bed-bound voters to vote.
- Helps people that are ill.
- Removes transport barriers.
- It actually increases voter analysis of candidates.
- It reduces crowding at volunteer manned polling stations.
- It's convenient especially during poor weather.

In case you didn't know, here's the measures taken to make them secure: Voters must provide Date of birth and Signature. These are then checked against records before the vote is counted. There are strict deadlines and procedures overseen by local authorities and the Electoral Commission.
