Well done to all the@DunbarPrimary p6 pupils who were helping repair our wildlife stacks and remove the old tree guards to allow our trees freedom to grow. Amazing effort from all and we noticed lots of amazing nature as we worked. #johnmuiraward#smallactionsbigchange
@DunbarPrimary p5’s continued their #johnmuiraward outdoor learning by removing 12 yr old outgrown tree guards (and recycling the wooden support by adding to our pallet bug hotels). We also alerted the @ScottishSPCA to a young Roe deer trapped in the construction site. #ARCH
@DunbarPrimary P5 started some #outdoorlearning around their #johnmuiraward today. We identified and compared a variety of habitats and discussed ways to conserve and improve micro habitats in the playground. We want to apply this learning to the wider environment.
A day of mixed emotions @DunbarPrimary forest school. Lots of fun taking part in challenges to demonstrate skills we’ve learned during our sessions but very sad to say goodbye to our p4 Forest schoolers who’ve been amazing! We enjoyed a sticky marshmallow celebration to finish!
We loved making nettle flatbreads @DunbarPrimary forest school today! We learned how to forage safely and sustainably and worked together to prepare a fire to cook them on. One pupil told me they want to run their own bakery when they’re older so good to get some practice in!
Our @DunbarPrimary forest school crew were #litterheroes today collecting a whole trolley of litter from our woodland. We also enjoyed a popcorn challenge to put our fire lighting skills to the test. Lots of new spring flowers appearing too including the tiny blue #greenalkanet
@DunbarPrimary forest school enjoying the first days of spring with a celebratory wild tea! We picked edible Forsythia flowers and fired up the #kellykettle to make a brew which we learned is helpful for sore throats, fever, inflammation and healthy heart muscle! #forestschool
Great to be back in the woods with @DunbarPrimary p4’s. A few of our learners enjoyed quietly observing 3 roe deer in the surrounding grass habitats. We were also looking for clay and exploring the woodland for suitable nesting materials which our resident Robin Bob tested out!
Great to have p4s back at @DunbarPrimary forest school. Everyone helped with a litter pick to help the wildlife which comes into our playground. The pm group explored the habitat around the building site to look for animal tracks. We found deer, fox, cat and weasel tracks!
Keeping warm was the name of the game today at @DunbarPrimary forest school. An energetic ‘Fly, Robin, Fly’ game, birch fuelled fire and plenty ropes to rig up swings, pulleys and ladders. We also found ‘Green Elfcup’ mycelium on some rotting birch. #birchtree#greenelfcup
1st session for @DunbarPrimary p4 forest school. We collected different parts of the Scots pine tree; needles, buds, closed cones, open cones, squirrel nibbled cones, resin and bark. We learned about the uses and health benefits of pine trees for wildlife and humans.
@DunbarPrimary Forest school are still looking for volunteers to support our P4 Wednesday sessions on 18th, 25th Jan and 1st March. A great opportunity to support the health and wellbeing of our pupils and give yourself a little nature connection too.

A frosty @DunbarPrimary forest school session to finish up our p5 sessions. We enjoyed the warming fire and melted lard to make cupcake bird feeders. Lots and lots of layers needed to keep us warm and happy in the winter sunshine. #forestschool
It was a very happy St Andrew’s Day at @DunbarPrimary forest school. A beautiful frosty morning, lighting fire, making and eating porridge and some games to keep us warm and active. We also did our washing up in the woods, everyone lending a helping hand. #StAndrewsDay2022
Some winter tree ID detective work today @DunbarPrimary forest school, looking closely at bud patterns, shapes and colours to help us ID trees. We showed our understanding of opposite and alternative bud patterns by placing pine cones on sticks. #forestschool#outdoorlearning
Bringing lots of new skills together at @DunbarPrimary forest school - introducing the bowline knot to loop a ridge line round tree, create a loop on a tarp guy line and to rig a pulley to keep food away from wild animals. We also whittled pegs for our shelters #forestschool
