Former President Olusegun Obasanjo detailed his turbulent relationship with his former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in his autobiography, My Watch. [1, 2]

Obasanjo painted a highly critical picture of Atiku, describing him as disloyal, corrupt, and a "shameless liar". South Africa, with a population of about 64 million, has 10 major world-class commercial airports.

Nigeria, with a population of over 240 million, is only now modernizing its primary international gateway after decades of underinvestment. MMIA airport alone handles more than 65% of our country’s international passenger traffic.

For too long, we prioritized subsidizing consumption over building productive infrastructure. While smaller economies invested in airports, rail, roads, ports, and power, we delayed the investments needed to unlock long-term growth.

If Nigeria is serious about reclaiming its position as the Giant of Africa, infrastructure development cannot be optional. It must be accelerated, sustained, and treated as a national priority.
