NIH is temporarily extending eligibility for some mentored career development awards. If your award prematurely ended on/after Jan. 1, 2025, you can apply for a new mentored career development award if all other requirements are met. https://t.co/MyvsnuSnBi
New finding: 5-day accelerated TMS (no MRI) with major PTSD symptom relief in n>100 Veterans—77% response, 62% remission.
Fast, scalable, and effective with scalp-based targeting.
A big step for accessible precision PTSD care. #TMS#PTSD@VAResearch

Thrilled to announce that my mentor/bestie/co-lab director Amy Herrold’s merit award, exploring a combined tms/yoga intervention for veterans with chronic pain and opiate use disorder, received its intent to fund notice. So proud!
In fiscal year 2024, the report found, NIH awarded more than $36.9 billion to researchers, supporting more than 408,000 jobs and generating over $94.5 billion in new economic activity nationwide.
Augmenting TMS response in MDD: We know DLPFC-TMS works, and for non-responders that OFC-TMS adds some 20+% remissions, so what if we combine these two protocols? Large sample shows no advantage. Maybe it is about specificity of TMS?
Congrats @AmouriePrentice and @NikitaVinne with this work, and great collaboration with @JonathanDownar

#Congratulations to Dr. Aaronson on being elected as an Early Career Board Member of #ASCP! Her dedication to advancing neuropsychiatric treatments, advocating for underrepresented groups , and supporting the next generation of clinicians and researchers will make an #impact.
The NIH announced it will slash billions of dollars of support to universities and research centers.
This is one of the biggest attacks on science we have ever seen. It could dismantle the biomedical research system, shut down clinical trials, and halt development of treatments.
@justin_garson No, dude. It’s prison. Imprisoning people with severe mental illness over dumb stuff like trespassing or public indecency. It’s pretty clear you have a lot of opinions about a population you know incredible little about.
The NIH 15% cap on indirect costs will kneecap biomedical research in the US.
Without essential infrastructure, there will be:
Staff cuts
Lab closures
Fewer research projects
Less scientific progress
Loss of talent
The US will no longer lead scientific & medical innovation.
@DrIngold@fperrywilson You’re a doctor saying this?
Already research is massively underpaid. Postdoc salaries are minuscule. The amount of money to cover equipment is nothing. We CANT DO large scale studies that aren’t paid by pharma (read: hugely biased) because there is no money. Learn more.
#ACNP2024 is both great and bad. It’s great in that I get to meet a lot of wonderful, brilliant people, reconnect with old friends and mentors and generally have a fab time. It’s bad in that I have about 6 new ideas for projects and can’t decide which to do first
