We are very pleased to confirm that U Nottingham UCU and management have agreed a deal to end the marking boycott locally, and save students from further disruption. Key elements of the deal include:
Breaking: New study finds drinking expensive alcohol linked to longer lives and drinking cheap alcohol linked to shorter lives. Scientists desperately trying to identify the features of alcohol molecules that could explain this puzzle.
@PhilosopherLiam So long as she appreciates that eudaimonia is a state of objective flourishing and not merely a subjective feeling of happiness. Did you ask about that?
Well well well. @SheffieldUni go for the jugular, and opt for 100% pay deductions for the marking and assessment boycott. Sorry students, that's me locked out of helping you prepare for your exam next Friday, or with any extenuating circumstances. @ecroxford1 @savsheffSU
@cmlittlejohn What I never understood is why they don't just rescue Jones during the half-time interval. (The game won't be over for an hour, which means they have 15 mins before the second half begins.)
Could UK academics please give the REF the red card on this platform over coming days. Remember your University's spin department will be seeking to make capital from your work at the same time as slashing your pension and offering an even larger than usual paycut
My beef here is the underlying assumption that f2f is better/best, so only a minimum of classes “can” be online. Pedagogical reasons are apropos, but the 10% limit is arbitrary. Faculty need to present data on why a class should be online, so admin should justify 10% limit, yes?
Reading the news coverage of the @UCU#FourFights strike, I get the impression that many people don’t know what University lecturers do (and why would they?), so here’s a thread on it. I’m a psychologist, so let’s start with the work of the average psychology lecturer. 🧵👇1/18
University of Manchester missed the number of ballots needed to fight back on pensions by only 20. We overwhelmingly voted to strike to defend our futures, even if all of those 20 votes had been "no" we still would have voted 80% to strike. We must not let this defeat us.
IMPORTANT: Does your #UCUstrike ballot-posting selfie look like one of these?
If so, you have put the envelope in an electrical appliance. This is a significant fire risk and means your vote WILL NOT COUNT unless you take it out and put it in a post box by Wednesday morning.
