Really pleased that our commentary on 'The Importance of place in climate action' has been published with an amazing set of co-authors in @PLOSClimate . We've drawn on our experiences of the Place-Based Climate Action Network, so lots to digest! @PCANcities @GRI_LSE
I'm looking to hire a short-term, part-time, UK based Research Assistant over the next 10 months to work with me on some research on London's response to extreme heat.
Deadline is 24th April.
See below for further details and how to apply. @GRI_LSE @PCANcities @ClimateGeog
We are exploring this further at the @GRI_LSE , for example, looking at how this can be adopted in the context of preparedness to extreme heat. Find out more here https://t.co/VBamQKZvBo
Delighted to say that our new Commentary with @EJZRobinson66 has been published in @NatureClimate where we discuss the need to better align adaptation and mitigation efforts when designing and delivering climate action
New commentary by @DrCHowarth and me, @GRI_LSE , published this week in Nature Climate Change: βEffective climate action must integrate climate adaptation and mitigationβ.
https://t.co/1QFAuMs8SR
While there are challenges to aligning adaptation and mitigation, this is possible and should be prioritised. We need to focus on policies and regulations, financial incentives, framing and contextualising this integration, enhancing capacity, and building a social mandate.

Our report is out today! With analysis of responses to the 2022 heatwaves, and perspectives from central and local government, first responders, utilities companies, third, public and private sectors, from England, Yorkshire & Humber, London, Manchester

Decision-makers and practitioners working on the frontline of the heatwave response in 2022 in England consider the country to be ill-prepared for future extreme heat events. It is vital to learn from 2022 and ensure the UK is better prepared for extreme heat in the future.
Join our report launch βTurning up the heatβ:
10am, 28 February to discuss how the UK needs to prepare for overheating.
With a fantastic chair Dr Radhika Khosla (Oxford Uni) & speakers Andy Love @ShadetheUK1, and @KathrynABrown Wildlife Trusts.

The Environmental Audit Committee has published its report on its Inquiry on Heat resilience and sustainable cooling. You can find our submission to the inquiry here: https://t.co/fItuCmQj4s
Current government action on overheating lacks ambition. Tackling heat risk must combine adaptation and mitigation efforts to effectively tackle the growing and urgent risk of extreme heat.

π¨ A national strategy on heat resilience is urgently needed to address βthe silent killerβ of heatwaves.

The reportβs recommendation for a national heat resilience strategy and that locally-based approaches help deliver and improve heat resilience is a step in the right direction, but this must be backed up by appropriate and long-term funding mechanisms.
