Update from Animal and Plant Health Agency this afternoon 🐔
Avian Influenza housing measures for poultry in England and Wales will be lifted from 9th April 2026. Mandatory biosecurity measures will remain in place
See https://t.co/Z6kSpJfP9u for info
We freerange our breeding group of Orpingtons in our orchard. We go out of our way to provide things to keep the chickens interested.
These ladders leaning against one of the cherry trees provides the perfect "Jungle Gym" for the chicks. It's also fun to watch them.
Alien egg alert! One of our girls laid this bumpy egg today, the tiny dots are calcium deposits which can happen as they start laying for the season
Have you had any alien eggs recently?
Don’t forget from 1st Oct all bird keepers in England/Wales must register their flock with APHA 🐔🐔
This has been in place if you have 50+ birds for years & is being done to help manage any diseases including bird flu & limit spread in case of outbreaks

We lost Audrey our 12 year old Cream Legbar a couple of years ago and I miss blue eggs. Think we need a blue egg layer and a really dark brown from a Marans
It’s been so long that I’ve bought pullets - where have you bought birds from recently?
We have a last minute rehoming date with 100 ex commercial hens from @BHWTOfficial looking for homes in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday 14th Jan 🐓
For info and to rehome hens see https://t.co/vN7565Gvyj
I’ve not worked in a poultry shop for a few years so not sure what’s around now
Looking for a new drinker, large volume that you fill with a watering can from the top - not a twist off and flip upside down job - any recommendations please?
