Yesterday we talked about the vital role Pharmacists play in Kenya. 🧑‍⚕️
But what happens when that trust is broken? Every professional must be accountable.
Here is your guide to reporting Pharmacist malpractice in Kenya, via the Pharmacy & Poisons Board (PPB):
What is malpractice?
It’s not just about rudeness. It’s a legal breach. This includes:
❌ Wrong drug/dose
❌ Selling expired/fake meds
❌ No valid prescription
❌ No license/registration
❌ Failure to counsel on side effects
Step 1: Document.
Before you report, gather evidence.
📸 Take photos of the medicine packs and receipts.
📝 Write down the Pharmacist's name, pharmacy name, date, and exactly what happened.
Step 2: Confront (Politely).
Raise the issue with the pharmacy manager first. Sometimes it’s an honest error. Ask for their response in writing.
Step 3: File a formal complaint.
If the issue isn't resolved, go to the regulator: The Pharmacy & Poisons Board.

Step 4: Health & Legal.
If you were harmed:
🏥 See a doctor immediately.
⚖️ Consult an advocate. You can sue for negligence under the Law of Torts and the Consumer Protection Act.

✅ Keep all evidence (prescriptions, receipts).

In Kenya, as we have always done, we are trying to play politics in areas where politics is not needed.

Having a diploma level Pharm-tech superintent a retail facility is not a practice you can find in ML3 countries, let alone 2.

FYI, Uganda and Rwanda are at ML2.

Standards of practice in any profession must be adhered to and dispensing is not an exception.

If dispensing is a forte for PharmTechs, it doesn’t mean we throw out all the stern global regulatory standards and accommodate loopholes that may create chaos in future. Emphasis is superintending.

This is not akin to fighting with Pharmaceutical Technologists.

So two things really: Adhere to that required standard or upgrade to the same.

Time to shape up or shape out.
