Do we want to break down silos and dismantle hierarchy? Maybe not says @DigitalTonto. In summary:
1) Whilst many people have called for the end of hierarchies, we’ve failed to do away with them because they serve a useful purpose.
2) We should think less about how the org chart is constructed & more how we design for connection.
3) Rather than breaking down silos, we need to join them up, through social connections that span boundaries.
4) Network science shows that often just small amounts of connection are needed to bring social distance crashing down.
5) It's the role of leaders "to help groups connect and forge a common purpose":

@HelenBevan @DanielleZandee Action research is a powerful way to solve real organisational problems:applying behavioral science knowledge integrating it with existing organisational knowledge. The emergent inquiry process encourages collective discovery and participation- key for change #Lewin
I’m participating in the Action Research Lab at #AOM2023. There’s such potential to build the role of change agents in health and care organisations as action researchers: inquirers and experimenters, creating practice-based evidence. Thank you @DanielleZandee and David Coghlan for an inspiring session.
Healthcare is often described as a complex adaptive system. Can we plan all the step for our desired outcome in one go? How often does your plan change to accommodate that complexity? #QITwitter
In order to create systemic change, we need more than small projects.
#SocialMovement has huge potential for creating systemic change.
Imagine what would happen if we leveraged #SocialMovement & #ImpSci?

@WarwickBSchool Sharing the 6 lessons via blogs sketches & tweetchats has forever changed my practice as an acad/c. We need to be intentional in bridging the gap between research & practice - this campaign is testament to the power of people coming together to share, learn & inspire #LeadingQI
Being a part of the tweetchats changed how I think about impact and engagement... It has also changed the way I think and will do research going forward #LeadingQI#QIHour
This concludes our campaign to share six lessons from the evaluation of NHS-VMI partnership.
Before you go…
Q5. Please tell us to if and how these six lessons have influenced the way you think about improvement. #LeadingQI#QIHour
I wholeheartedly agree... it has been a very easy yet insightful way of connecting with so many like-minded indivduals... I look forward to more opportunities in the future #QIhour#LeadingQI
Q5. The tweet chat process has been an eyeopener. Must be one of the most effective and cost effective ways to get meaningful conversations about significant academic and policy findings. #QIhour#LeadingQI
I think this is because we are trained to believe that the scientific method holds the answers for every problem, question and puzzle, then get disappointed when we don't like the answers the method produces, It is only one way to view the world, not the only way #LeadingQI
@WarwickBSchool A4. I think we tend to approach prioritisation as a ‘technical problem’ - collect the data and the right metrics, compute and get the answer. When really it’s a ‘social problem’ that requires facilitated discussion and negotiation, as well as consensus building #LeadingQI#QIHour
Yes... All Improvement matters regardless of what is being improved, however, time and context also matter, and we all value each of those in different ways, that is why some things get more resources, time and attention, and others don't #QIhour#LeadingQI
Q4. All improvement matters (but not in the same way).
To what extent do you agree with this statement and how can we make sure we are investing energy and resource in the most impactful way? Please share examples of best/worst practice if you can! #LeadingQI#QIHour
@jimmy_parvin@WarwickBSchool I think this goes back to the last tweet chat we don't do relational measuring, how effective is our system at keeping people happy and healthy, rather than point of care performance #QIhour#LeadingQI
@WarwickBSchool A3: In my experience metrics need to be in balance, similar to what Jimmy outlined in his A2-Quality, Delivery, Service, Morale, Sustainability. A length of stay metric misses the point without a quality metric (readmission rate) and patient experience metric. #LeadingQI#QIHour
This should be co-produced, what do patients experience and what would they want the improvement to look like as well. We improve to enhance quality, safety and patient experience, not just for moving the "right" metrics #QIhour#LeadingQI
You need ask a series of questions typically starting from the end and working backwards. What is the real issue we are aiming to improve and what would we want improvement to look like, then ask what are the qual & quan means of evidencing it #QIhour#LeadingQI

‘What gets measured, gets managed’
Q2. “How can we identify the ‘right measures’ to be able to evidence if an improvement has been made over time and how can we make sure these are measured reliably? #LeadingQI#QIHour
@WarwickBSchool A1. Also a fan of a Pareto chart to help narrow the scope, e.g. if cancellations are the problem in focus, gather data to understand the reasons for cancellation and look for interventions that tackle on the most frequent first. #QIhour#LeadingQI
Q1. You can start with finding out what is important to staff and collectively decide what areas require improvement first. From a personal stance, I like the idea of starting small and generating small wins, but I know that is not always possible #leadingQI#QIHour
The choice of where to ‘start’ an improvement project can be tricky. Choose a project that’s too big and you risk failure, choose one too small and no-one will notice.
Q1. What tips can you share for deciding where to start with improvement? #LeadingQI#QIHour
