Amid the weather and travel carnage, there is also a nationwide shortage of blood products. Please make #BloodDonation the most important gift you give this Christmas

@OttawaHospital is running low on blood products during the holiday season - please go online @CanadasLifeline to donate tomorrow - openings from 8 to 2 p.m.!
As the monkeypox virus (MPX) outbreak continues, a lot of data emerging in real-time & being rapidly disseminated (as well as misinformation). I complied the unfolding scientific data (with direct links to papers and threads) on what we (don’t) know so far. #IDTwitter 🧵(1/n)
If anyone knows the person in this photo, I suggest reporting him to Ottawa Police Service. Read this whole thread - this person stepped over the line between “public nuisance” to “willful endangerment”
This proponent of “freedom” is standing on the grave of a man who died for it. The grave Nathan Cirillo died guarding. Every protest has its idiots, but this is abominable
FYI, if you made plans for in-person schooling based on the Thursday update, you need to revise them. This will be hard on those without childcare options
BREAKING: @ongov to announce (imminently) schools will go online for the next 2 weeks. As bitter a pill for some who will struggle mightily during this time, this will afford some needed time to upgrade safety measures, defuse the surge of Omicron.
@aspatrick @DrAmirPakdel @OttawaHealth Yes, it is definitely rising now, but we have been at record-breaking local case numbers for the last 13 days. If this was like prior surges, the wastewater numbers would have broken records 3 weeks ago
@parsnipper As a society we idolize heroic last-ditch medicine ("Don't you die on me dammit!") and shun sensible day-to-day stuff. But the latter works better. Maybe the next MCU movie could be about a dietician, or a public health nurse?
And there you have it. Numbers nearly doubled in one week. Gonna be a rough winter. Get your boosters if you can, reconsider the Xmas parties, and go back to basics

@curtisharvie Best case scenario is a highly transmissible, rarely serious infection that burns quicker than we can control it, but causes little harm. That seems unlikely however
A short thread with some thoughts & calculations of mine about Omicron. Still preliminary, so don't take any figures as final, but it's a start... 🧵
