Others like to engage in conspiracy theories and antisemitic hate on X…Fortunately for the Irish Jewish/Israeli community and the general public, the deleted reply to Ewan MacKenna (who regularly posts antisemitic content) from the personal account of AIG executive, John Gillick, has been preserved in the Wayback machine. @AIGinsurance

🔴 More Jew-hate. This time in Northern Ireland. Israeli athletes, who were supposed to compete in the Derry European Triathalon this coming Saturday, were forced to drop out of the competition due to threats. Collective discrimination against Jews recalls the Nazi era, and is being supported by @MarkHDurkan of the SDLP @SDLPlive party.

Israeli Sports One writes (translated with AI):

A victory for antisemites? A number of Israeli athletes who came to Northern Ireland to participate in the European Triathlon Cup will not participate in the competition, after the organisers announced that following threats and a demonstration expected to take place right next to the competition, they cannot guarantee their safety and there is concern about the competition taking place as planned.

After examining the situation and out of a desire to maintain the safety of the Israeli triathletes in Northern Ireland, it was decided that they would not compete. The representatives who were supposed to participate in the competition are some members of the Israeli U23 national team, but traveled independently to the competition there, so it was decided not to take a risk.

The Israeli Triathlon Association's response: "The safety and well-being of the athletes are paramount. Along with the decision not to take any risks in the circumstances that have arisen, the association will work with the European Union to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future, and to ensure that any international competition in which Israeli athletes participate can provide the necessary conditions for their safety and equal participation." @NIFriendsIsrael

There is a blatantly obvious push by bad faith actors to relegate Jews to simply a religious group and thereby eliding core components of both Jewish identity and manifestations of antisemitism.

Jews were not murdered in the Shoah (Holocaust) for ‘beliefs’. They were hunted down and murdered for their ethnicity. Jews are an ethnic group that the Nazis racialised. The Nuremberg Laws were race laws. The Shoah was a racially motivated genocide. This is basic. If you do not know this, you simply don’t know anything about the Nazis and their motivations.

Conversation to Christianity would not save you. Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) is one example of tens of thousands of Jewish converts who perished. That is why she should never have been made a Catholic martyr specifically (although her canonisation was most appropriate). She did not die for the Catholic faith, she was murdered for being a Jew.

As an additional note for the Catholic-Jewish relations nerds: Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger (‘the Jewish Cardinal’) always opposed Edith’s martyrdom for this reason. Aligning with secular Jewish critics, Lustiger argued that Edith was sent to the gas chambers because of her Jewish blood, not her Catholic faith, and that her martyrdom obscured that fact. He was and is 100% correct.
