I teach in higher education and have a PhD in a STEM field. Am privileged because of my family and country, not because of my race, sex, or orientation.
Thought of the Day/ Week/Month/...
Value, and its operational synonyms like "good", can only be given meaning in the context of a holder of value, i.e. a person, an individual. ( "What is the best choice" always presupposes a known answer to the question "best for whom?" or "best according to whom?" What that "whom" actually does is what defines what they most "value". )
- A set/class/collection can not value anything even if the members of that collection can. Groups, sets, classes, etc. Are abstractions.
- Conflict emerges due to conflicting values between individuals acting in overlapping arenas.
- Compromise becomes possible when individuals come to understand their distinct values and the risk to those values (if any) inherent in conflict. (This risk is a function of the relative power of the involved individuals, specifically the power to produce value or to destroy it in an attempt to "win" in a conflict.)
- Cooperation then emerges ( if and) when individuals understand that the empowerment resulting from coordinated actions to achieve common values yields to each individual more than is compromised in forsaking conflicting values.
- Morality then emerges as we establish societies in which a template system of formal values has evolved to (locally) optimize the individual true value obtainable by that society's participating members.
As we navigate our choices to produce value, to compromise, or to instigate conflicts, we should keep in mind these facts so that we can best understand the consequences of our actions.
🚨 RUBIO JUST SAID THE NUMBER THEY NEVER WANTED ON TV 🚨
Americans work 40 years.
They retire.
Social Security: $800. $900. A thousand a month.
Somebody who got here from Cuba three months ago: $1,500 a month.
Marco Rubio said it out loud.
“So imagine if you’ve been working here for 40 years and your Social Security check is smaller than the benefits going to a 28-year-old, able-bodied person who just got here. That’s real. That happens. That’s happening every day. That makes no sense.”
You paid in.
They landed.
They beat your check.
That’s not compassion.
That’s a slap in the face with your own tax dollars.
Cut out all softdrinks. I had the most common type, Ca Oxalate. Passed two easily, went through lithotripsy for one and had one jam up and needed surgary. Very painful. Since the last I didt the keto diet for a while. I've had no more issues (so far cross fingers). I think the main helper was cutting way back on sugar esp absolutely no soft drinks.
You are clearly not a liberal. I suspect you are instead a progressive leftist, which is an illiberal ideological position. I know you are a fake liberal because you are intolerant of even your own family just because they hold differing political beliefs. I know you are a progressive leftist because you are trying to paint your illiberal intolerance as a liberal virtue. To test my hypothesis, honestly consider the scenario where your family disowned you for your beliefs.
*If such an event would anger you, then you are a hypocrite.
*If you have faith that your family wouldn't do such a thIng, then you should reflect upon the question of who actually has higher moral clarity, you or them. Who amoung you is really *liberal*?
Pick up a bottle of bitters (I liked cherry and orange) and drink water with a splash, also with lemon or lime juice. Drink the water cool but not cold and never with ice. Also, with club soda if you miss the bubbles. When the weather is cooler, try hot water with a lemon twist. This worked for me when I cut out sugary drinks.
