People with mental illnesses die 25 years earlier, on average, than people without mental illness (https://t.co/1DN1PKEkjf); but it's impossible to understand why (and work to fix this injustice) better data on mental health conditions on death certificates. #CDC#data (2/2)
I was delighted to share a personal story to show why it is critical for medical examiners, justices of the peace, and coroners to include mental illness or substance use on death certificates, even if mental illness did not appear to be directly related to the death. (1/2)
In this guest post, researchers from the @MeadowsInst share results of their analysis examining trends in death from suicide and associated policy opportunities to more accurately classify deaths related to mental illness.

#1: Mental Health
Everything begins and ends with our mind. The way we perceive and interpret the world is all through the conversation in our head – and that obviously has huge potential to influence the quality of life we experience.

I did not notice a time block on your calendar to "check Twitter" or #Threads. But I think I will implement a 15 minute "check Twitter" block daily. :) Does @AmandaMGoetz approve?
Inspired to implement all the things @AmandaMGoetz taught me, thanks to @MorningBrew's leadership accelerator. Ready for the 3-hour work day, @Tennant_PS?
@FromPhDtoLife Interesting. As a non-profit researcher, I find that our students/interns end up thinking that working in academia is actually "less than" working in other sectors. I now solve real problems every day, but when I was in academia, I'd work on the same single problem for 6 years...

@JohnCChatham@cmotpow At many R1 universities, a 50% salary offset from grants is the "minimum expectation." Want a bonus this year? Be closer to the cap (90%). Not all of this needs to come from NIH, of course, but I would suspect that NIH is the largest funder.
@FromPhDtoLife Keeping fish. Aquariums are a breathtaking combination of science and design that never cease to amaze me. I go into a “zone” when I’m pruning my tank plants or changing water…
@meghan_crim@USFCriminology It would be helpful if you permitted DMs or posted your linkedin - i'm always looking for a pool of brilliant "data savvy" folks to join my research team!
