It's June 2 and this morning at my field site it was 29F with frost on the ground. We saw our first female with nest material today!
In 2016, we had eggs May 10 and nestlings late May. My brain is struggling to comprehend this field season! 🤯
Excited to be talking about ornithology at the Women in Science conference at BHSU today! I've never set up a mist net in a classroom before, but my Audubon Stellars Jay is ready to show 7th and 8th graders from SD and WY how they work!
First day of 2022 field work!
Caught 6 juncos and about 12 chipmunks.
Started training 2 students who said they had a blast!
Oh, and it snowed. Overall, good start to the season!
Tested out some prototype potter traps this afternoon from @Trucatchtraps and actually caught myself a very handsome male junco! ❤️
(... and 3 house sparrows)
I had a raptor center come give a presentation for my ornithology students last week. This week one of the students came up and thanked me for having them come because she's decided to apply to volunteer with them. This makes my heart so happy! 🥰
