@SIUChasmite@pensandpoison Well, I wonder how many ppl think Ivy league folks couldn’t possibly be racist or have problematic thoughts about that topic …
It’s crazy to realize that I devoted my life to reading and writing literature at the very historical moment when literacy itself completely collapsed. Over five hundred years since Gutenberg, and yet I managed to be born right as the paradigm collapsed.
"status"? "professor"? in the so-called academic world the highest status, if you measure by salary, is football coach followed by assistant football coach & eventually president & administration.
I’m working my way through the New Science & in the sections on Poetic Wisdom there’s much that could be useful for ur thinking. I’ll take some time tomorrow & send sum more specific passages your way, if you like. For this, btw, I think a full read of whole text is in order. :)
@BrandonWarmke No one is saying don’t criticize. But if you’ve managed a report w/poor evidence and sweeping claims and drawn the network so tight in authorship (including an ex-president in the era in question) there’s real danger of conflating anecdote with analysis.
students are always like, "but what if you can't read my handwriting??" and i delight in telling them that as a medievalist who had to take a bunch of palaeography in grad school, i have literally been trained for this.
Job hunting today is completely broken. You need entry-level roles that require five years of experience, three rounds of interviews, and a take-home project, all for a salary that barely covers rent. The math is not mathing.
It’s incredible to me that scholars who have lived through the collapse of academia over the last two decades can conclude it’s woke scholarship and not the politics of austerity and disinvestment that has ruled since the financial collapse of 2008.
genuinely wild that so many people are still trying to do Sokal 2 "JUDITH BUTLER THINKS THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TRUTH" stuff as if woke academics are more of an issue than uni management blowing millions through incompetence or politicians trying to dismantle the humanities
