โIf they are reading their magazines by the million, then I want my stories there rather than in magazines read only by a few. For story belongs to the people.โ
In her Nobel Prize lecture, novelist Pearl Buck spoke about her wish for her writing to reach as many as possible.

What a privilege to experience priceless heritage first hand ๐
Just back from Italy & my first visit to the Colosseum. Fascinated by the ancient & modern graffiti โ a surprising connection between the past & present.

Great interview with Maud Page, Director of the @ArtGalleryofNSW, in the @Qantas magazine, particularly her discussion on making art more accessible. Inspiring to see cultural institutions prioritising inclusivity and broader access ๐

Vale Lyndall Ryan.
I only saw Lyndall present once at my 1st @AustHistAssoc conference. I was fortunate to chat to her afterwards & she said "it's so wonderful to see an archeologist at a history conference". Will always remember that exchange โค๏ธ

Fukui is a special place for dinosaurs: roughly 80% of all dinosaur fossils discovered in Japan come from this prefecture.
They're so proud of this that even the benches contain dinosaurs.
Lyndall Ryan, an amazing historian whose work I found inspirational, and latterly a friend who helped me get through cancer treatment with stories of her own response, has died.
Her work on the frontier massacres map will always be a vindication of truth-telling in History: https://t.co/0d8V9YVMwJ
I hope that the posthumous publication of her chapter in https://t.co/Gi1qo7sKZS will be a fitting tribute.
Ann Curthoyโs obituary is worth reading:

When the world feels too dark, read a children's book.
When you need to feel hope, read a children's book.
When you need to believe in magic, read a children's book. Children's lit is a balm to those worn out & in need of wonder. Never dismiss these books as "just for children."
The AHA is saddened by the passing of Lyndall Ryan. Few in our profession have had a greater social impact. She received an AHA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 to celebrate her remarkable scholarship and influence. Our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and colleagues.
In the spirit of #AnzacDay2024 had a play with @slqld new AI tool, Charlie. I really liked that it linked to relevant records at @slqld, @nlagovau / @TroveAustralia & @AWMemorial to allow users to further their knowledge. A nice entry point into archival research ๐ #ARCHIVE#AI
I struggled to read books by myself due to childhood trauma but I had teachers who read Roald Dahl & Judy Blume in class that taught me reading could be enjoyable โค๏ธ
Never underestimate the importance of reading to children #WorldBookDay
