A button battery should only, EVER, be in its packet or in a device. When YOU take it out of the device, put it in the TRASH. If you have loose button batteries just lying around, YOU are part of the problem. Kids swallow them, because you left it lying around.
We cannot allow GPs and hospital doctors to be replaced by less qualified people. Patients need their problems dealt with by those with specialist training yet these specialists are out of work!
PAs start on ~£10k more than a doctor, this is not an economically viable model.
'Political parties are either kidding themselves or the public about the scale of investment the NHS needs'. Writing in @Telegraph our President @TMitchellFRCS calls on politicians to set out more ambitious NHS funding plans to support reform👇 https://t.co/vjyUTbsAlY
@DrNeenaJha I specifically asked Colin this question @RCSnews & he said ‘the only way to become a doctor would be through a medical degree’… He prevaricated several other Q about equivalence & who would be at fault if a PA messed up… Q were stopped. Everyone is v. anxious about pt safety..
Great statement from Council @RCSnews on scope of practice for surgical care practitioners with reference to the lap chole paper.
Relevant for all specialties

We thank @RCSnews for this clear statement, with safe surgical practice and trainees at its core
SCPs have a well defined scope of practice: performing parts of a lap cholecystectomy with or without supervision has never been acceptable
We are thankful for the reminder to consultant colleagues to use every theatre opportunity to prioritise training the surgeons of tomorrow

RCS England Council reminds local consultants of their responsibilities when agreeing how surgical care practitioners work as part of surgical teams. Consultants must ensure their decisions align with the agreed scope of practice for SCP
Reflects the concerns raised by surgeons and especially the need to robustly monitor and enforce the agreed standards and scope . RCS England Council discussion on Surgical Care Practitioner scope of practice — Royal College of Surgeons https://t.co/KcPxr8MINa
Patient safety must be paramount and therefore the surgeon must be involved in the whole process from assessment, diagnosis , procedure and post op. Must be able to manage complications and take responsibility
Read our Joint Statement in response to the recently published case series in The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons England. We call for immediate action to protect surgical training and ultimately the patients we work so hard to care for safely.
The NHS is completely BROKEN😢
WASNT broken by COVID/Strikes/inflation (*delete excuse)
but by deliberate CHOICES to break it
RT if you want this/next government to make CHOICES to properly fund the NHS, #reward staff & provide better healthcare than 👇 for the UK population
We have published a new statement, which updates our position on medical associate professions and the expansion of the physician associate workforce: https://t.co/yDCN8K2dRU
Latest NHS stats...my analysis. We are at risk of obsessing over miniscule changes in what is otherwise a planet sized clusterfuck of poor performance that started long before Covid. Or in gif form...
Great to hear @lregan7 (far left) reinforcing @DrHilaryJones's explanation: The #DoctorStrikes are asking for £5 extra per hour (to bring pay up to £20 per hour) for the Foundation year after qualifying as a doctor. With massive student debt.
Let's all agree they should get that.
Many thanks to anyone who supported me with one of their votes. Commiseration to those who were unsuccessful this year - I hope you stand again next year. Looking forwards to July and a re-focus on the needs of the Membership!
Congratulations to all.
I hope our new Council members speak with courage and freedom. Council needs to hear many views, not only an expected mainstream narrative.
I am disappointed not to be re-elected, but more disappointed in the very poor turnout- about 14%.
