It's also why summer learning loss hits drilled facts hardest. A single-route memory has nothing to fall back on after 10 weeks of disuse. A networked one has redundancy built in.
"Isolated facts have one road in โ and anxiety closes it."
This is why we teach facts through relationships and strategies, not speed drills. One retrieval route is fragile. Multiple routes are durable. Strategy builds networks. Networks build mathematicians. "#mathfacts #factfluency #mathfluency #elemmath #mathchat #teacherpd #mathleadership
The fix isn't "drill harder." It's teaching facts through strategies and relationships FIRST, so every fact has more than one road in before we ever ask for speed. Strategy builds networks. Networks build mathematicians. Not just for today โ for the long haul.
This isn't a metaphor. It's how memory actually works. Facts stored with rich connections (schema, relationships, multiple strategies) are more resistant to retrieval failure under cognitive load than facts stored as single associative pairs. t's also why summer learning loss hits drilled facts hardest. A single-route memory has nothing to fall back on after 10 weeks of disuse. A networked one has retrieval pathways built in.
Think of it like this: a kid who only knows 7+8 as a memorized pair has ONE retrieval route. Stress, a blank test page, a ticking clock โ and that single road closes. A kid who knows 7+8 through relationships โ near doubles (7+7+1), making ten (7+3+5), compensation (8+8-1) โ has FOUR roads to the same answer. Block one, three still work.
๐จ๐ณ Imagine drawing a math equation on a blackboard... and watching it instantly come to life.
At the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, a company unveiled an AI-powered blackboard that transforms handwritten equations into live graphs and simple sketches into interactive 3D models in real time.
If this technology reaches classrooms, math lessons could look very different in the future.

With razor-sharp wings and vision unmatched in the insect world, dragonflies are natureโs most formidable mosquito hunters. According to Smithsonian Magazine, these aerial predators boast an impressive hunting success rate of up to 95%, making them one of the most effective hunters in the entire insect kingdom.
A single adult dragonfly can devour anywhere from 30 to 100 mosquitoes per day, which has earned them the well-deserved nickname โmosquito hawks.โ
Their role in mosquito control begins long before adulthood. As aquatic nymphs living underwater, they aggressively hunt mosquito larvae and pupae, sometimes consuming over 100 larvae daily. After emerging as adults, they take to the skies, using their exceptional eyesight, incredible speed, and ability to hover and maneuver mid-air to snatch mosquitoes and other flying insects on the wing.
By patrolling ponds, lakes, and marshes, dragonflies provide highly effective natural pest control. In addition to mosquitoes, they also consume flies, gnats, midges, and even other insects, playing a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance in their habitats.

How should schools support teachers with AI?ย
Tech coach Stevie Frank (@steviefrank23) learned a trick from Disneyland that every school should emulate -- let people walk, then decide where to build sidewalks.ย

We love finding new ways to use familiar tools, and Google Forms is the perfect example.
Beyond standard assessments, it can be used for things like morning check-ins, retrieval practice "brain dumps," and even digital escape rooms.

School culture is shaped less by slogans than by what leaders consistently address.
When harmful behavior, poor communication, or missed expectations are repeatedly overlooked, people learn that the standard is optional. Strong leaders respond early, clearly, and fairly before a pattern becomes the culture.
What is one issue your school needs to stop treating as normal?
Modern education asks,
"What do you want to do?"
Classical education asks,
"Who are you becoming?"
One prepares you for a career.
The other prepares you for life.
"Screen value is far more important than screen time." ๐ฅ๏ธ
