@NathanielJolly @StephMac4Jesus No, your statement was careless. It does not take much to differentiate all forced labor from voluntary servant hood. Was the carelessness intentional or unintentional?
@WaulkThisWay @BandmanRyanA Yes, I am to blame for taking your words as you presented yourself. Your words stand. So many gun defenders envision themselves as the hero guarding gates of society. Yet society does not trust you to be the good guys with guns saving anyone.
@NathanielJolly @StephMac4Jesus You condemned man-stealing. However, you left a lot uncondemned. The one who does not do the man-stealing, but merely purchases the stolen man or woman. The one who keeps enslaved the child born to his slave. Your wording leaves the like of John Edwards uncondemned.
@NathanielJolly @StephMac4Jesus Here it is helpful to use clear language given the range of meaning the term "slavery" encompasses. Indentured servitude implies some level of choice in one's fate. Where slavery typically refers to forced servitude.
@NathanielJolly @StephMac4Jesus At best you could say that slavery as indentured servitude was sometimes better than alternatives. But in no way does that make human slavery a good condition.

If presidents think they will be chased into jail under thin pretexts as ex-presidents, they’ll try even harder to never leave office. This is how autocracies are born.
