@AsianTrader Exactly why we are so pleased to be working with your team in the New Year to support healthy, sustainable and viable change in the c-store sector. ๐
@PublicPolicyUoS@LordRedesdale thank you for the insightful masterclass last week. ๐๐ซต Academics should share headline info about research within 12 seconds/words to best engage policymakers. Will use advice for our upcoming #obesity policy roundtable.
1/3 Pleased to share our new paper published in @IJHPM. We explored consumersโ views towards the food placement and promotion legislation. @DrSarahMuir, @DrWendy13, @EmmaJRoe, @ChristinaAVogel Findings๐งต

So pleased to present our pre-implementation evaluation of HFSS legislation at #SSM2023 last week. Convenience store #Retailers and #localgov need more support in order to reduce #inequality. #policy evaluation necessary to monitor unintended consequences.
Sarah Muir is presenting a qualitative evaluation of Government Legislation to reduce promotion of high fat, sugar, and salt in retail at the #SSM2023@SocSocMed
It's not a central, official HFSS calculator as @DrSarahMuir and colleagues suggested might be needed, but @vickijenneson and team have created one (and it's fab).

Listening to @DrSarahMuir present this great study at #SSM2023. Important findings re implementation of HFSS placement restrictions in food shops

@IsabelO20183051 I agree labelling doesn't work and people can still buy confec or snack in aisles . The leg is aimed at reducing impulse sales of unhealthy foods at prominent places so people arent bombarded with it. Placing healthier foods in prominent areas has been shown to improve health
Evidence that more support is needed to ensure #obesity#policy is appropriately implemented and enforced. #retail regulations are the only way to change #FoodSystems to properly support population health but that can only happen if shops comply!!
@IsabelO20183051 No people are not overweight because of supermarkets but in the UK regulating the food system to ensure that healthier food is more affordable and available to the public than foods high in fat, salt and sugar is likely to have better impact on health.
Our recently published work shows that world-leading UK #HFSS#legislation is a great first step but loopholes, legislation exemptions, and high cost of #healthyfood may undermine #health benefits and lead to problems in #healthequity see๐งต๐
The legislation is complex and a central HFSS calculator, #smallbusiness support and resources for local authorities would help consistent implementation and enforcement. Independent evaluation of the legislation will understand intended and unintended consequences.
"The 'nanny state' argument against regulating food businesses simply does not stack up."
Sarah Muir, @PreetiDhuria, and @ChristinaAVogel on why anti-obesity measures in England should be welcomed as a chance to improve population health https://t.co/r1LXl25MiA
From today supermarkets and larger convenience stores are no longer allowed to stock high fat, sugar and salt foods in prominent areas in store (end of aisles, checkout sets). Read our @bmj_latest piece for why this is important https://t.co/dZ85AIrHmg
