If ever there was a need for a transcendent leader to help regain public trust, it's now. The good news is that we’ve done this before. Lincoln became that leader in the 1860s, Roosevelt in the 1940s. Is it naive to hope there is someone capable of similar transcendence today?

There is a notion in our culture today that change must happen rapidly. Computer chip semiconductors double in capacity every two years. World economic growth, the volume of human intelligence, and agriculture output historically doubles at regular intervals.
Change is necessary but rapid political change ends in chaos. Our form of representative government was designed to find a moderate middle ground on tough issues that result in necessary change without threatening our social and economic stability.
