This morning, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga attended a breakfast Meeting for Informal Consultation on Africa Union Institutional Reforms, hosted Kenyaโs President William Ruto in his capacity as the Champion of the reforms, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting was also attended by Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) comprising African ambassadors to the AU.
The AU reforms are aimed at making the institutions of the African Union more accountable, efficient and effective in serving Member States and the African people.
The AU reform agenda to be anchored on the following 5 issues:
(1) Focus on key fewer priorities with continental scope, and improve the division of labor with Regional Economic Communities;
(2) Re-align African Union institutions to deliver on those priorities;
(3) Connect the work of the African Union more directly to citizens;
(4) Manage the business of the African Union more efficiently at both the political and operational levels; and
(5) Sustainable self-financing of AUโs activities.
