I recently had the chance to join the UNCAGED podcast and discuss what brings me the most joy: watching those I work alongside succeed on their own terms... it really never gets old. Make sure to check out the full episode.
Reaching our full potential—isn't that what we all yearn for? Now imagine you can help children achieve that success: that's why @DrTonyAnderson, at Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, loves his job.
The evening will include the screening, a community dialogue led by Kimberly Danielle, and a networking hour hosted at Candy Cloud. Space is limited, but I’d love for you to join us. Details and RSVP information are available through the event link.
I hope you’re staying warm.
I wanted to share something I’m genuinely excited about. Tomorrow on January 31st, The Keepers of the Culture Youth Pilgrimage will host its first public event, a private screening of the award-winning film I Was A Stranger.
This event is made possible through the support of an incredible group of partners, including (but not limited to) the Columbus Museum of African American History and Culture, Kingdom Image Arts, The OSU Middle East Studies Center, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and more.
The leaders who create truly engaged teams are fluent in both. They can set expectations and create accountability, while also connecting people to a larger sense of meaning and growth. That balance is what sustains teams over time.
There’s a real difference between leading and managing. Management brings structure, clarity, and consistency. Leadership brings direction, belief, and momentum. Both serve a purpose.

The challenge is knowing when each is needed. Teams disengage when they’re over-managed and under-led. They also struggle when they’re inspired without the systems to support execution.
Leading through this moment requires more than frameworks. It requires empathy, self-awareness, and the willingness to slow down just enough to help people make sense of what’s happening.
Lately, I’ve felt something that many leaders quietly acknowledge but rarely name: change management feels harder than it’s ever been. If you’re experiencing that too, you’re not imagining it and you’re not alone. https://t.co/SSwe4Y3680
Add to that the scale and interdependence of change. Decisions in one part of the organization ripple across others. And of course, much of this change is externally driven by forces well outside a leader’s control. That unpredictability creates a different kind of pressure.
I hope this weekend gives you a moment to rest, reflect, and celebrate the incredible impact you have on our students and community. The work you do matters more than words can capture.
This Saturday is International Day of Education, and it’s a great moment to reflect on the people who make learning possible. As Assistant Principal at Columbus City Schools, I see firsthand the dedication, creativity, and care our educators pour into our students.
To all the teachers, administrators, support staff, and education professionals who work tirelessly to ensure our youth get the education they deserve: thank you. Your efforts don’t just teach subjects, they shape confidence, curiosity, and possibility.
